Head Light Covers

Hi All,

On a Griff, does anyone know how to remove the headlight covers?

They're only held by the sealant, so you've got to carefully cut round it and lift them off . .

Why are you taking them off?.. are they damaged?... You have to open the acess cover in the inner wing, remove the bracket, cut around the sealant at the front... and take the full unit out by droping it down and turning it... it comes out forwards... not the best job.. and getting it back in is a sod... You can then remove the cover from the pod.....?
Think there is a better explanation on Griff Pages of exactly how it's done....

They don't lift off, they're stuck on the bodywork from below (within the headlight aperture). They will also be attached to the headlamp pod with double-sided foam tabe or even self tappers, so you really have to remove the whole headlamp.

Mine are sealed to the headlamp pod AND have self tappers in too.

Don't be daunted by the scaredycats in there though. Its no picnic I'll grant you, but if you follow the noddy guide and take your time it isn't that difficult if you are capable of re-sealing a bath.

It's not that bad really, more of a winter job IMO.

Look at your bathroom, if you're happy with your masticing then it'll be fine, if you're not, pay someone else to do it

I personally just use ordinary black sealant, ok it may not have the instant grab of sikaflex, but if they have to come out again.....

Did mine last week after seal appeared to have broken on both sides after nudging work bench when pulling in to garage, ( and I do mean nudging which is what suprised me - snails pace ). Anyhow I asked on here and decided that since I wasn't removing the lenses I would opt for black silicone sealant. They don't look fantastic but not too bad and will get done professionaly when car has nose painted. One tip - make sure your finger is very wet, ( enough ), when smoothing as mine initially wasn't and a kept pulling out all the sealant I'd just put in.
