Recommended Driving Course
Discussion
I'd like to learn how to get the most out of my Griff.
Can anyone recommend a track-based driving course in the South East that will enable me to learn the car's, and my limits, while being a bit of fun?
I don't want to be told how to drive on the road safely. I want to be told how hard this beast can be pushed.
Cheers in advance.

I can't recommend Colin Hoad at CAT Driver Training, Millbrook enough. The best driving teacher I've ever come across. The problem with many race drivers is that the characteristics that make them good drivers (ego, aggression, individualism) make them very poor teachers. Not only can Colin drive, he can teach driving.
www.carlimits.com I have been on their 4 person day and was very good. not a track day; it's a day learning how to control your car at and beyond it's limits in a safe environment.
Ride Drive or Car Limits for me.
Car Limits is great because it allows you to take your car to the limit of traction, you really get a feel of when its going to 'let go'...which is nice!
Ride Drive instructors will sit next to you & show you how to get the most from your car on the road, where you need it the most. The advantage of this is you get to 'read the road' in everyday situations & the experience is invaluable.
Car Limits is fun, but Ride Drive will teach you so much more that you can use on a regular basis.

Another one here for www.ridedrive.co.uk You can have the chance to go off road to learn how far you can push the beast, then how to tame the beast. Put simply its the best car mod you can do!

I can't comment on Ride Drive, however, I can comment on Andy Walsh at Car Limits and with other instruction I've had on the road and track this is the best day by far.
My reasoning is that what Andy teaches you is 'why' your car does what it does and 'how' you effect your cars behaviour. Once you understand these elements you can then work on improving the inputs you make to the car and how that makes you a much safer TVR driver and this is as applicable on road as it is on track.
Understanding that often it's your input in to the car that makes it behave as it does, makes you realise how to become smoother and faster with the confidence of being able to deal with unexpected behaviour. Then you can extend your driving tuition onto the road or track. Vanishing point, car charateristics, hazard observation etc . . Track tuition is different again I've found it best after doing Car Limits day so you can focus on getting round 'that' track faster and safer.
Understanding the mechanics/physics of your car's handling and relating that to you in a way that makes it realistic and applicable is where Andy scores highly for me. He is also flexible in terms of your ability and will adapt his day to suit your ability/needs.
