My drivers side seat belt has locked and won't release despite "persuasion".
The Bible says the seat belts are "as fitted to many other cars" - anybody know what other cars as a trip to the breakers yard is called for?
Cheers

I'd guess that most early 90's Fords would have the same belts.
Might like to ponder on why those cars ended up in the breakers...........belts are only designed to work once.

Think new inertia reels are only about £40-50

They are £51 but according to Gorners there are "very few about" and they don't have a passenger side one, so thought I'd try a late model car in a breakers yard - if I knew which one

I replaced both my belts a couple of years back as one was damged by water ingress with Britax sourced from local accesory shop, these are indeed a bog standard reel and are not handed.
You have to watch the stalk length though, and any belt must be matched with the stalk, the tongues on the belt all look similar but vary surprisingly.
I still have the box one came in up in the loft with the applications on it, and also have 1 complete spare belt unit taken from my pre-cat, if your interested drop me an e-mail and I will dig out what I have. Griffer

Griffer - without being too personal - what length's your stalk on the old Griffith belt - if it's a long one I'll take it off your hands.

jigs, my car was built with one of each, long and short! I need to get them out the loft and see what I have, they should both be there. I replaced the stalks with 2 new long ones, will keep you posted.

Griffer - thanks - strangely enough mine has a long driver's stalk and a short passenger one! I wasn't sure if one had been replaced but maybe this is how they were all made. Can't think why - can you?

as RICH B says, make sure the belt reel is positioned correctly. ie level. they have a ball locking mechanism and if its slightly on the pi55 - no worky!

mine won't work at all on my drive as it has an incline, but its fine elsewhere.

sussed after MUCH messing about at home!

Bizarre, my pre cat has one long one on my side, and a short one on her side, where the factory trying to tell us something????

I'm just glad i never let her drive as doing the belt up must be a pain!

If there is a source of "long ones" i would be interested to know as i would like to fit one to "her" side.
