Door mirror damage
Discussion
the metal post inside sounds like its broken, your local dealer should be able to supply another for less than £20.
Fitment is a nightmare as you have to get at the hidden grub screw under the plastic cover at the base of the mirror that sits in the recess,do your self a favour and let someone else do it!
hope all goes well

Hmm, don`t talk to me about mirrors.........
My driver`s mirror is taped on for now because the metal bracket behind the glass broke, leaving the whole assembly only attached to the car by the heater and motor wires. I`m told the metal post in the door that holds said metal bracket is also a weak point, so where yours has failed will be an unknown until you take it apart...... the mirror is from an 70s/80s Citroen CX after all!
My dealer tells me TVR don`t have any assemblies (they don`t sell individual parts - you have to buy the whole lot) but if I phoned around other dealers, any that have one will want 200 quid plus VAT. Plus painting. Plus fitting. Blimey.
If I remember my phone conversation correctly, PR Wood Motorbodies, who advertise in Sprint, have got an alternative supplier for the same parts and charge 100 quid + VAT for the whole thing, but didn`t have any in stock.
I`ve got an assembly coming from a breaker that advertised in the Autotrader - unfortunately he phoned a dealer for a new price before quoting me - so I`m paying 75 quid for a metal bracket! (plus the other bits thrown in for free!)
German/Swedish/French parts franchise don`t list the part.
I recommend trying breakers and ask for TVR/Citroen CX/Lotus Esprit wrecks(Can`t help with Esprit year but they did use the same for some time), after all, winter is the time TVRs get stuffed more!
Happy hunting.

. Seriously though, I dont think they have a forward release mechanism on them so you're probably looking at a new mirror if you heard it go snap.
