Do 500 pistons have pockett's???? Cam choise?
Discussion
I'm looking at the Stelth from V8D.... it says it's right for the 500 but do they have Pocketed pistons as standard... or do i have to have that done also?? Any thoughts?
'''V8D Stealth Camshaft Kit
A Slightly more progressive fast road camshaft than the MC1. This is ideally suited to the 4.6 or 5.0 engine and the driver who is looking for a little more performance from their car. The camshaft produces valve lift which is just on the limit of fitting without pockets but we recommend pocketed pistons as a precautionary measure. Peak horsepower is seen at around 5,500 rpm and this cam still maintains good low rev manners and a steady idle. The kit is as the MC1 kit. Double valve springs recommended.'''

Three main flavours as I understand it... OEM style single row morse chain that had nylon sprocket teeth one end as stock but is upgradable to steel. Single keyway and fixed timing position.
Then twin row roller chains set up with triple keyways that enable (typically) stock timing and fixed positions something like 4deg either side as set up options. JP and Cloyes seem to be the brands that get mentioned most for these.
Then twin row roller vernier sets, where much more and finer timing variability is possible. Kent and Piper are ones I have seen; no doubt there are others.
Roller chains seem to be advertised as 'pre stretched' (pre-worn?) and I have read that clearance on intermediate or later covers can be an issue. Need to bottom this as it's a subject dear to my heart at present (new cam in progress)

Don't get confused with the P38 cover problems and need for cam sync from cam sprocket. ISTR that Robs said all his cams are machined for cam retaining plate these days, which is another area of confusion.Still it's much easier to persevere calling and chat with Rob directly IMHO, he will have the solutions if you need them, and if its a case of interest about the pertinent differences I'm sure he will explain them if you ask
You never know but he might even convince you to have a custom solid lifter cam if you are lucky

When you say dual vernier ... I understand the vernier bit... but are you saying it includes a duplex chain and bottom sprockett also?... i thought they were single chain as orig fitment?... may be i'm wrong??
Can't say what the V8D kits contains, but if you're replacing the cam you should replace the chain drive set and followers as a matter of course. A duplex chain is much better than the original single so the choice to use that is a no-brainer. For an aftermarket cam you're pretty certain to need a vernier pulley. Hence when you buy a cam you'll almost always want the drive set and followers to go with it, and the drive set will be duplex vernier.Called and it's booked in to do... has everything... cam / followers / duplex chain / vernier top sprockett / rockers as required / front bearing etc... .top job... .. also having shells done... big ends and mains as car is 45K now... and air flow improvements... inlet manifold matched to heads... increased bore plenum base with trumpetts and 72mm plenum....
You see what's happenend now!!!.. This is exactly why I didn't want to give him a call!!!!!

Does this mean I won't be breathing in half your car in future? Then twin row roller chains set up with triple keyways that enable (typically) stock timing and fixed positions something like 4deg either side as set up options. JP and Cloyes seem to be the brands that get mentioned most for these.
