ALARMING SITUATION

Hi everybody!

I’ve found myself locked in and out of my car a couple of times because of a temperamental alarm system. Its starting to take around 15-20 minutes of trying to arm and disarm the alarm/imobiliser/central locking of the car using the key fob.

I have a 1994 500 pre-serp with the original Gemini system.

Does anybody know where the alarm system is located in the car? I have located the siren in the front nose of the car but know I have to dig deeper to find the problem.

Has this happened to anybody before? Is it a corroded connection, loose wire or time to get a new alarm?

Sounds like the alarm ECU itself is faulty and you'll struggle to find another. I bought one off Carl Baker last year, and it was his last one, a new old stock one he had kept for testing others. My problem sounded similar to the one you describe.

The alarm ECU is located behind the dash under the hi-fi unit and is accessible by pulling the hi-fi unit out.

Thanks Cunning. The Alarm and sensors all tested fine. I then checked the key fob! although there was enough current to light the LED on the fob, there was not enough juice to send a strong enough signal to the alarm. The battery connectors in the fob also needed re-soldering. Problem solved. Phew hehehehe.

And in fear of being wrong for the simplest of suggestions, I thought better of asking have you checked replaced the batteries. Glad you got it done.
