Retro fitting the cold air vent in the driver’s footwell

Well spring is here (in Australia) and it’s starting to warm up. I’ve got a 98 Griff without Air conditioning or the cold air vent. As a first step to keeping cool I’d like to try retro fit the cold air vent in the driver’s side footwell.

Has anyone done this? It would be great if someone has some photos of the fan and how it’s mounted in the front wing? Is it a special fan to fit or will any 12v heater fan will do..

There is a thread on this somewhere Kbear, I remember reading the story about how he fitted it. Or maybe it was just how he took a hose directly up to the drivers side

I can't remember any keywords which might help you search but I thought you'd like to know what you are looking for might be out there.

If you cat a hole and mount a dash vent in it, the through wing pressure will force air through. Open and close the vent as req'd. Ok when driving...

or for when stationary/traffic...

cut a hole bigger than the blower (any) mount the blower on a plate and bolt it in the wing. run the wires to switched 12v supply. easy enough.

I would put some mesh over either the wing intake or the fan intake. A couple of cars have had the fan catch fire when blocked with leaves/twigs etc. You can't get to it to put it out!

I have a blower if you want, but not the plate.

Ian - I was also sure I'd seen a thread on here before but couldn't find it with any search, I guess it was on the griffpages all along.

Thank Andy and Dave, this is exactly what I was after!! I'll need the fan option as cooling is only a problem when your stationary.
We have plenty of Vauxhall Nova's (or Holden Barinas) kicking around in Oz so the blower motor will be easy to find.
