engine cut out - advice, please !!

So, I used Griff today to get from Cardiff to Malvern & back. Fantastic day & great with the roof down (how many convertibles do you see with the roof still up ?!!).

On the way back, stopped at a garage for refreshments, car started OK (I have never had the hot starting issues), so I pull out onto the dual carriageway, and away I go....

.... got into 3rd, not hanging about,and the engine cuts out !! Fortunately, I was right by a layby, and coasted in.

Tried to restart it, and it was as if the engine was trying to catch, but couldnt.

Checked the fuel pump and immobiliser relays & they were OK, checked to make sure that the fuel pump was priming, and it was, so - and because I was a bit annoyed - I flattened the battery trying to get the bleedin' thing started ! (only took 4 goes - must check battery)

So, the AA are called, and when he turns up, I tell him my woes, and that the battery needs juice, so that he can "diagnose"

He puts some charge in the battery, and the bleedin thing starts first time !! aaaaaaaaagggghhhh!!

The car then gets me from Ross on Wye back to Cardiff with no issues at all !!

Anyone got any ideas why it would have just died like that ?? (and then decided it wanted to work again)

check your coil
and all leads and ignition amp if you have one.......

i am sure someone more technical will add to the list.


fyi i carry spare coil and amp in the boot for those rare occasions when the griff decides to play up
