As I posted several depressing engine woe threads on here a while back, I thought I’d take this opportunity to tell all what was up with it having now got it sorted.

It got really bad towards the end, stalling etc and couldn't even drive it 10 yards without playing up. So bit the bullet at asked Dulfords if they could sort out a collection as I'm 80 miles away and have a look see.

Firstly, due to the turning of the butterfly spindle, the throttle pot had gradually slipped back to near zero volts, which would explain the cutting out at low RPM. Now this was my fault for not tightening it up enough after checking it was at 0.3v. So hands up on that one. I was wary of cracking the housing, so guess I was a bit to cautious on that one. Oops!!

However, the main issue was the distributor had the incorrect mechanical advance weights fitted, so wasn’t getting no where near enough advance. I believe it was 14deg short of what it should be. Thus timing was bodged from day 1 to get it to run better. You can’t tell from just taking the cover off and looking, you needed to look at the stamped number on the rear, so as it was removed and stripped to see if all was well, the error became apparent. Personally all I did was check they were moving freely which they were.
Slightly miffed about this one as firstly, TVR fitted wrong parts from the outset and secondly, no dealer or specialist has ever picked up on it previously in it's annual service visits throughout the country before I owned it. Never felt right to me ever having owned a griff before.
Richard also tweaked my AFM and although set to 1.8v which I had checked previously. From his experience they run better slightly richer. Few other things were checked to that I can't remember now. But anyway, main culprit had been found.

After all that it had a rolling road session to get it all set up as good as possible and got a shade over 300BHP out of it. Which for a totally standard engine is ace apparently, so rather pleased about that I must say. Nice little jpg supplied for your interest.
Certainly feels more powerful now anyway.

So to sum up just want to thank the Dulford crew for sorting me out. Car is so much better now. Also thanks to anyone else who offered suggestions on things to look for. Tried ages myself to find the issue, but never would have found the wrong weights as a cause.

Funny thing is I have read about this somewhere, think it is in the bible about different ones being fitted. Never entered my head to check it.

All good fun eh!!

I would not have got that in a month of Sundays with a fault code reader or looking at the fueling!

Hope that did not sound like a dig at you matey, certainly was not meant to be. So if it did, I'm sorry for that.
We confirmed many things in our little investigation and I am very greatful for you offering to help out and spend your time with me. You pointed me in direction of lots of things to check that I was not aware off, but sadly did not get any conclusion.
This is why I had to give in and get specialist help eventually, I'd exhausted things to test out that us owners were aware off!!
