When I first had my Griff, when it was two years old, I'm sure that after the fuel pump had primed before starting up, it then shut up and was not heard from again.

Now I can hear a quiet but distinct whirring noise whenever the engine is running. Is it getting noisy or am I just going mad? I've heard this noise in a friend'd Griff too, at a time when mine wasn't doing it and it was immediately noticeable.

Get some wax back in those ears - just after syringing I hear my fuel pump too.

Mine's started this in the last month or so. I believe it can be an early indication that it's worn out. Don't know how to check it though but it's on my list of things to do when next serviced.

Only done 21K miles too! Still I suppose it has pumped a lot of Gordy's liquid money...

I can hear a noise from mine as well but only intermittently, its not as loud as when priming and if if i switch off and start again rarely continues.
Haven't been that bothered about it always thought it was probably a frequency thing with the pump/mounting..

You could always try turning the hearing aid down!!!!

The pumps will make noises especially as they get older and when the throttle is pressed and so the demand on the pump increases.

Not a lot that can be done to check them BTW. Main problem can be clogged fuel filters causing the pump to strain. Replacing them because they are noisy is a bit expensive at £130-150 a shot as well. Especially when the pump can go on and on and on...

I've noticed the pump getting noisier on mine shortly before it started playing up, it made a very nasty knocking/rattling sound. But if it is just the normal hum getting a bit louder sometimes I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks guys - so replacing/cleaning the fuel filters might help, or at least increase the pump's life?
Let me guess: Filter 4p, Labour to get at it £120?

No - filter several quid (Land Rover part?) - just take off rear nearside wheel and there it is strapped to the chassis - easy to get at.

...but connected to a high pressure fuel hose. Don't use a lighter instead of a torch, etc.

Fuel pump will also continue to run if their is a fuel leak anywhere,ie hoses etc.

Have you noticed a drop in fuel on your gauge?
