Passenger side rear carpets
Discussion
Is there a simple explanation as to why the carpets to the rear (ie behind)of the passenger seats are getting wet when it rains?
- no wisecracks please about the explanation being that the car is leaking!!
It only seems to affect the rear carpet - the passenger side footwell remains dry.
Thanks for help
p.s have sorted out my driver side leak - as Steve and others suggested it proved to be the brake master cylinder and /or the clutch master cylinder seal - both of which have been liberally silicon sealed.

if its not what nray says, then it sounds like it may be coming from the roof where the targa panel meets the rear section.i had this on mine, only when i parked on a slope did it give itself away,as i saw some drops of water on the rear of the 't'bar.possibly your hood needs re-proofing?,a little fabsil cured mine completely.

Assuming you’ve checked the obvious door seal, seat belt mounting bolts etc.
Then push your fingers into the corner between the back shelf and rear bulkhead. This can be wet and the rest of the shelf carpet can feel dry.
What happens is the roof water proofing breaks down (re-coat with Thompsons et.al) water seeps in around the edge of the roof line and down behind the carpet on the back bulkhead, it then collects in the corner and runs round to one or both ends and then drains down, again behind the carpet, into the rear footwell.
Hope this helps, mine did this took me ages to find after I’d sealed everything in sight.
Cheers,
Simon.

Had the same problem...
Make sure the velcro is stuck firmly to the bodywork
(evostick contact)just behind the door otherwise water will get under and down the inside of bodywork/carpet.
When i re-fixed this, the hood had a much better shape in this area especially at the very front next to the door. I think this stopped the water creeping/flowing in off the window and under the hood!!
Good luck

There is a bit of triangular (almost) rubber attached to the upright of the rear screen (just behind the rear end of the door) which perishes after a few years. It's function would seem to be to divert any water getting under the velcro away from the inside of the car. For something so small it seems to make akllk the differnce. I cut some from a length of bicycle inner tube and it doesn't seem to leak anymore.
Good luck.

Before we replaced the rubber bits, the water soaked the carpet behind the seats and in particular, on the drivers side the seat belt seemed to have managed to collect most of it when it was coiled behind the seat. By the time I arrived at work I had a lovely soggy line right across my suit - which was nice!!
All fine now though. Good luck - water probs can be real pain because it will find and travel along any 'line' it can so it's not always obvious where it's coming from - pesky rain!!!
