Split In Swirl Pot

Somehow...God knows how, there's a 1" x 1/4" gash in my swirl pot.

Terrible diagram below. A friend told me that a big glob of Araldite should do to fix it until I can get a new swirl pot delivered and fitted.

Can anyone advise me how to get the car working for 400 miles or so until it's fixed?

Any decent fabrication firm should be able to tig weld the split.
Check engine mounts, as they can fail and allow the PS pulley to catch the swirl pot.

Araldite will absorb moisture and fail in a short time, plastic metal stands more chance of holding, but will still fail eventually.

Welding it up is the best bet

100% Nearside engine mount

As others have said a few £'s for a weld


Get some SCPower mount restraints or the new style Poly mounts ....

Thanks for the information. Having read some other threads it looks like the mounts may need replacing (SC Power reds will be ordered).

Do I need to do mounts and restraints or are the mounts alone sufficient?

Also do you think that this:

I've used that putty with some degree of success, it's better than Araldite Just make sure you use it on a cold system and give it adequate time to cure.

& take some tape, jubilee clips & anything else you can think to bung the hole if it fails

Would agree...had mine done, was worse than that, too, so shud be no problemmo......still looks ok too!
