Air Flow Meter.......where from?
Discussion
Hi all, not been on for a while, not been in griff either (bludy northern weather plus domestic, er, issues) but need a new afm-the entrance to it from the front (of car to filter)is warped (mustve tightened clip too far I reckon
) so assuming this cannot be repaired, where can I obtain a relacement? Are they a standard rover replacement and are they available as a sh part?
Cheers all.....
Dave.

Have you managed to bend the metal body? That must have taken some doing!
Assuming you have the standard 5AM, it's from a Range Rover 3.9 Classic and it would be worth trying people such as Mark Adams to see whether he can supply a good working replacement. I wouldn't trust used/second hand from the bay because you never know how well they work or whether the sensor is contaminated.

The AFM is basically the same as a Range Rover or Land Rover, and comes as 2 types, the older Hitach 3AM, or Later Lucas 5AM and electrically they are identical, but the castings that bolt on either side of the AFM itself do vary dependent on the car they where used on, and the 3AM and 5AM castings are not cross compatable, but as long as you get basically the same type you can swap the castings. These guys do them for a reasonable price either new or recon'.

Im a little confused about your failure, is it the feed pipe you refer to, or the steel cap, as Id be surprised if you can damage the casting?

Thanks for your replies, gents.....
Its not the hose (have had the ACT one for a few years now, both sides, if you understand!)
and not the casing (crikey, not that strong...!)it is the bit, forgive my lack of techno, that the filter side of the hose is clipped on to. Bit of ¬mesh¬ on one side, this too as I remember,clips/attaches to the main casing. What I think I`ve done is tighten the hose clip on the hose too tight and this has warped this part.....maybe I can get away with trying to re-form the part? AFM works fine, as far as I am aware, other than that.
In fact, drove it this afternoon and ran ok.
Just do not like the thought of dust and hot engine air going straight into the AFM unfiltered.
Dont think it makes any difference but car is a 1994 Griff 500......70k on clock.
Regards
Dave.

If you're talking about the steel assembly with the clips that hold the AFM on its a Range Rover part - on the RR its attached to the air filter box but a saw soon cures that
I'd say though that if its no good as it is you have nothing to lose - remove it and try putting it in a vice to reform it - or even persuade it with a 2 pound adjuster
if you f
ck it up you haven't lost anything.

If it's just the adapter that's been bent then just un-bend it. It's only a bit of tin.
Thays the plan, buddy!Appreciate all the input....

Do it tomorrow evening, been busy painting and putting a light up (how long can that take...bludy electrickery)etc today!!!!!!!Exciting stuff.....
