Fuel Lines

Spent the day uder the Griff today, as I had a petrol leak from one of the flexable fuel lines when the fuel pump was running. Still gave me the oportunity of checking the chassis, although when I removed one of the 17mm bolts holding the plate under the exhausts 1/2 a pint of rusty water came out!

sounds like you have a hole or two somewhere to allow the water to get in, sounds a bit much for just condensation.try driling 2 small holes at the end of the main chassis box sections at the back of the car, then jack up the front and see if you can get any more out, then find out where its getting in.

Having had the body off mine and seen the rust that occurs on top of the tubes behind the front wheels, I would imagine that is where its getting in, unless the tubes on the chassis have been poorly replaced in the past.
I have heard that some body on repairs to chassis are done with incomplete welds across the tops of the tubes.

Outriggers look ok from the bottom and the webs are also ok, they look original but you may be right. It's due an MOT soon (Nov) so I will ask Fernies to have a good poke around there.
