I've often seen the Griff 500 described as a "Shopping Trolley". I've looked about and been unable to find out why. As a prospective shopping trolley owner, I'd love to know why!

Anyone?

No idea. It has the same number of wheels, but it's hardly designed for shopping...

Yes, same chassis as a '91 Tesco 100 litre Grand Lugger. Not to be confused with a Smart Car, derived from a '96 Surrey County Council wheelie bin.

I thing you are getting a little confused.
It has been known as a "Shipping Tuggie" after the tugboats with the large loud engines with huge amounts of Torque.

However, dont try driving it down the Thames to pull any large ships.

(The above is all pre-coffee nonsense )

Hmm, I do go shopping in mine, and I can get a surprising ammount in it; Case of Fosters, Case of Speckeled Hen, Couple of boxs of Red and White and some crips.

and then I can look forward to a good drive home.

Perhaps Steve Heath could provide a full explanation, but I suggest it's because he has a race prepared Big-Wedge which he calls his 520, and he bought his Griff for everyday use hence it's his "shopping trolly" Rich...

I agree with RichB. I think it is only Steve Heath you uses this term for a Griff.

which must mean I have read his profile more than once, and think it's been written elsewhere as a result. sorry...

Don't worry. He does sometimes call it that in threads as well so you have probably seen it a few times and not registered the source.

The Griff 500 is called the shopping trolley because:

1. It is my everyday transport.
2. It frequently goes shopping.
3. It feels like a Sierra Diesel compared to the 520 Wedge and thus confirms its shopping trolley status.
4. It's not a runabout - got the Cerbera for that...

Will probbaly sell the Griff this year and promote the Cerbera to shopping trolley.

Does that explain it ?

part of me is disappointed... I thought that there might be some mysterious and/or amusing story behind this.

Never heard a griff described as being like a sierra diesel - but it's all relative I suppose, since your wedge is officially bonkers.
