Ticking from the plenum

My L reg Griff 500 has recently developed a ticking noise. its difficult to place, it sounds just like an tiny exhaust leak but it seems to be coming from around or in the plenum.

I guess its most likely the exhaust gasket though i did replace it recently. could it be a tappet ?

Pop the plenum top off & have a quick look if a trumpet has come loose - not so common on std 500 'pipes' but....

Is the ticking in time with the engine revolutons or random?

If the latter the exhaust mainfolds and system can produce quite loud ticking sounds as they warm up and cool down, but they are definitely random and intermittent
