Today I've put my Griffith on the official scale of the port of Vigo, in norhtern Spain, I'm lightening the car so I wanted to see how the work was proceeding, I'm exactly at 1.020 kgs, with about 15 litres of fuel in the tank....

I'm sure beeing able to get an under a ton figure soon.

Well done Giseppie.

I guess the fuel would be about 12Kg so you are getting close. Have you taken the heater matrix out yet ? Would be interested to know what that weighs, I guess the water in it is more than the matrix itself. I suspect there are a number of people that would be interested to know what you have done so far. We know you have the lightweight bonnet and carbon plenum, that weight is presumably with the roof off but what else have you done. You were talking about stripping the doors, have you done that yet ?

I think thats where there is a lot to gain in converting to the AJP style stat. All the bypass is in the normal cooling flow - just a link pipe across the front of the engine instead of all the extra pipework and heater matrix to have bypass before stat opening.

No, I still have do the following...maybe next week or the week after:

Take heater matrix off.
Radio, speakers and equilizer.
Take away the oil cooler and tubing (cooler is at the very front and there must be a mile of heavy tubing going and returning from cooler...)
I have a Varnley red top 30 battery already which I'll fix next week too.
Windshield wipers+motor+tank and water.

I have also a project to take away the whole front windshield and swap in an 1/8 inch think lexan strip (half high then stock), same as one of the Al Melling cars (see its website, there is a pic of a blue car there...).

I have already the lightweight bonnet, it's huuugely lighter then stock...I'm thinking of swapping in also a lightweight boot.

Again, panic being one of our continental cousins, uses a decimal point where we use a comma and a comma where we use a decimal point. Foreigners eh? wink

ETA - More on topic
Are you able to weigh the corners or front/rear? We have a weigh bridge in work and the front of mine came in at 520kgs and the rear 525kgs - pretty much spot-on 50/50 distribution. I didn't prepare so no idea how much fuel or what else I had in the boot or lying around the car.

...I might put only front and rear, it sounds a good ideato check both ends...only Idon't know how accurate it'll be.

After I drop a few other kilos I'll weight the car that way too.

Well, apart carbon plenum and lightweight bonnet, I have Sparco lightweight seat (only one...), no roof at all, alu radiator, (of course) no cats, emptied doors (no side glass either)and lightweight wheels...I guess with no oil cooler (and its long tubing), race battery, no heater, no wipers, no stereo/speakers and the lexan custom windshield I can easily achieve 950/960 kgs, maybe less.

I'll know soon.

This is the seat model...

It fits pretty easy, just the side could touch the door when close, need to force it on the left a bit to make everything fit properly, not a difficult job...

My seat is covered with black sky, it looks meaner in a matt grey car.

scratchchin Hmmm, before ditching the cats for ACT' finest stainless manifolds my Chim was weighed at 1043.5 kgs on Intrax' scales, and then we lobbed off another 4.5 kg by replacing the coilover units with alloy/titanium 1K2 Black Titans. That was with about 40% of a tank of fuel, a full toolkit with jack, four speakers and a subwoofer. Spare wheel left at home & replaced with air compressor/gooey stuff kit. Everything else box standard - seats, carpets etc.

Methinks without the cats and with the carbon twin plenum the car must be pretty close to 1,020 kg in the same conditions...

Will put the spare 15 and 16" OZ split rims with tyres on the scales - wouldn't think they'd be that much lighter than Estorils or Imolas...

I found that seat would fit in OK without being tight against the door if you peel back the cover and relieve a few mm of fibreglass where it presses against the transmission tunnel. It is not a structural part of the seat and the cover fits back without any problem. By doing that you can gain just enough to stop it hitting the door.
