TorqueV8 TF500 upgrade.
Discussion
I spoke to one or two people at last years Growl regarding this upgrade after having an adjustable fuel pressure regulator fitted by Ian(?) of Torque V8 whilst there.
The TF500 upgrade seemed to get good results on the rollers (Tavan's car I beleive) and I am thinking about getting it fitted on mine later this year.
I was wondering, now the product has been available a little longer if any others have any experience with the upgrade on their cars ?
The write up in Sprint seemed to recommend it, just wanted other peoples opinions really.
Cheers
Simon.

Its basically a stock AFM electronics stuck in a big pipe. This alters the airflow characteristics, so the internal electronics need to be tweeked manually on the car (takes some time) to get it somewhere near right. They also fit a different TVR chip (NOT a remap) to cover up some of the deficiencies to using the AFM this way, so by hook or by crook, the engine can be made to run this way. This is not as good or acurate as a Bosch AFM and proper remap, but some people are quite happy with it. Realistically the stock AFM is OK up to around 270BHP, but above this its a real bottle neck
This may or may not be of interest to you, i have just fitted a megasquirt 2 fully mapable fuel and ignition ecu to a griff, along with a 72mm plenum, the results have been fantastic, the old megasquirt was good for its money but the new one is exceptional, it even supports the 4 wire stepper motor as per the tiv runs, there are quite a few systems dont do this, the cost ended up being £1500 fitted.
Sounded to me like when you upgrade to Ms3 you throw away all the Ms2 (chip + daughterboard) rather than just the chip in the case of an Ms1 as someone explained it to me? ... but I guess the price difference isn't much in the scheme of things.
Sure sounds like it does nearly all the things you could want, just a bit confused why only one wideband on board when they implemented dual table? The java based turner studio (
) is a big step forward as well

Just a quickie.
What sort of power gains can I expect from the Tornado 5 package, and initially is the chip just a plug and play or would it require a RR set up at initial install ? Anyone have it on their cars ?

Knowing MA, the chip should be pretty much 'there' for an otherwise standard car if everything is up to scratch, the benefit of a rolling road session with MA is mainly that he goes through ignition, fuel delivery & stuff with a fine tooth comb to ensure this is the case before mapping, plus nailing the final 5-10% on the mapping.
The beauty of the Tornado package is that every time your set up changes, MA will do a new map to suit for a nominal charge; I'd say this would be the case also if you did an RR session after installing the package and it would appear that you'd benefit from additional fueling tweaks.

What Rob basically said was that for £1500 you could have a mappable fuel & ignition ECU fitted... ie no AFM restriction and coil packs.
He seems to also be saying that it gave very good performance figures.
What we went rambling on about is that there is a plug in upgrade to the earlier MS1 and later MS2 (mainly just different chips on the same 'chassis') which is in beta testing (namely MS3). This version (MS3) looks to be able to do everything you might ever need ~ rather than having to make compromises like shift light / fan, wasted spark / cop, sequential injection / banked / batch...
Certainly sounded to me that Phil Ringwood is trying the sequential injection right now from some of the questions he has been asking.. So I'd be fairly certain that you could have an install done ready to just plug in the upgrade when it is released. I was actually discussing the alternate ways of going from either A or B to get to the target C IYSWIM

I'm in the middle of a MS2 install right now. At the time, I was aware of the MS3, which is still in the 'beta' stage, as people like to say.
In all honesty, you could probably argue that MS2 (and MS1 to a certain degree) are the same - they're not manufactured and tested by Bosch/Honda, etc. but by a dedicated group of people who like to experiment and produce excellent results.
I am removing the original Lucas loom from the car and replacing with my own. I will be wiring the injectors separately, so if necessary I can run sequential in the future.
However, the main benefit (and I quote Dave Walker here) is fuel economy. I like fuel economy from my company diesel, to be honest, in my Grif - I'm not arsed.
MS3 seems more suited to modern engines, with variable valve tech, CANBUS, direct injection, cam sensors, etc.
Running and MSII is probably over the top, but I wanted to to keep the stepper idle control.
There are a lot of different systems out there (as everyone knows), it just depends on your flavour.
I personally think that the Lucas system was developed for production cars that were going to cover K's of miles in every different climate in the world. If you like to tinker, and are not scared of a bit of troubleshooting, go for a MS.
If you want to drop your car off, and drive away with something different - well, there's a lot else out there...

Whats the general opinion of the new Microsquirt system
as here http://trigger-wheels.com/store/index1.html?lang=e... when funds permit i will go with the MS2 but with a EDIS 8 unit firing the coil packs rather than direct firing of the coils from the MS unit, this new Micro system kit seems easier to fit for new comers though

Hi Wyn, If I remember correctly you replied on 'general TVR stuff'. I started this thread first then thought I'd try over there too
I may be wrong mind you.
Aha, yes, sorry chaps,
I may be wrong mind you.

Thought I was cracking up there, as you were.....
