92 Griff (K). I'm in the process of putting my reveneered dash back in and am wondering how best to fix the dials and gauges into the dash. It appears that with the early griffs the instruments fit into the holes but without a bezel to stop them falling all the way through. Either they are supposed to be a really tight fit or they were originally glued? When I took the dash out all the instruments pretty much fell out the back...

Any clues anybody?

I am about to replace my dash on a pre cat Griff and have done some research.

The early cars had Stuart Warner dials which should be secured by clips behind the dash, rather than clamps.

I believe Leven Technology might be able to supply the clips if yours are missing.

Mine are a very tight fit.

They push in until the rubber & wire o rings fitted to the back of them touch the 2 metal standoffs at the back of the dash.

They are secured with a metal strap that pulls them onto the standoffs by 2 nuts.(wish I had a pic)

To adjust how much the bezels stick in or out of the front of the dash will depend on how many o rings are fitted to the backs of the gauges, more will make the bezels stick out further.

does this make any sence

I have the straps and the standoffs, but the problem is that my dials aren't a very tight fit in the holes. The black bezels have a slight angle to them, but the dials are either a loose fit or fall straight through.

Can't really envisage what's going on here, but how about winding gaffer tape or similar round the dial to increase circumference and thus make it a better fit?
'Course, I might be completely up the wrong tree!!

Your dials and guages should only go in from the front and the 'horseshoe' brackets and knurled nuts will secure them snuggly against the dash with the rubber/wire rings in place.

Good idea before you take anything apart to take a few photos and make some notes.

I did take some photos, not very good ones but just good enough to see how they fit together. I can see how the horse shoe bits, washers and the strap will hold it into place. I'm just a little concerned that some of the dials will rattle, and from that work loose.

Unfortunately when I took the dash out most of the horse shoe parts had come away from the back of the dash and the dials were therefore hanging free.

I'm happy that I know how it all goes back together, and if any have a loose fit in their hole I may have use some tape around the bezel to make a more snug fit.

Once I've done that, there's the then lovely job of trying to get it back in and all the wires connected to the right things. (Don't panic, I've labeled all the wires...)

Thanks for everyones help and suggestions.
