I'm cutting my Griffith windshield at about half high and I'm fixing a 2mm thik lexan clear sheet in place of the front glass which, BTW, resulted to be hugely heavy, I might think about 15lbs, if not more.

The mod belongs to a serie of lightening changes which I hope will take the car well below 1.000kgs (at the moment I'm at 1.020).

A forum guy sometimes ago has make a photoshop of how the car should look with a lower windshield...

What do you think?

(I have my flame suit at the laundry so please be sweet...hehe)

I've thought about this too.

Remember you can also now lose the side windows/frames/motors etc and just fit 1/2 side screens.

Close up the doors, easy enough to cilmb in over them, then you can fit side impact protection as well

I've already done that, doors are empty already...I've dumped a good few lbs from each door...glass, electric motors and window guides.

I've also taken out door speakers, rear speakers, amplifier and radio/cd.

I have a lightweight hood fixed and I'm going to order a one layer light boot by next week.

The car so is nearly done, I only need the lexan sheet to arrive from UK and I will have pics of the finished product by next weekend, together with the final weight when I swap in the lightweight boot.

Ohh, maybe I'll need to wear bike glasses but who cares;)

I understand your need to make your car whatever you want it to be Panic, and I'll help out with any questions I can answer, but you did ask - so in my opinion you have completely fked up a beautiful classic car.

Not that anybody elses opinion should make a bit of difference to you, its your vision and for having the courage to do it I applaud you.

Thats a bit harsh Barreti.

There have been hydrids and racers of all "Classics"
E-Types
D-Types
Stags
AC
MGA/B/C...
Streamliners
Big engines
Max power types
Max engine types...

ALL of which help take the marque to a new and more varied audience than before.

Granted its not such a hard hitting post as the "smiley spew" that crops up from time to time, but to say that he's fcensoredd it up is still harsh IMHO.

Cut the guy a break...it's gonna turn heads and it'll eat Porkers...
From your profile, you have a pre-cat thats a "500 clone"...not exactly a purist then?
fcensoredd up a rare pre-cat? not AKAIC but hey.

You've been pretty frank, for that I give you a huge credit, even if I don't agree with your opinion.

I'm just making my griffith more mine (...and possibly quicker), that's all.

Guys, guys, blimey.
Didn't I sort of say "each to their own", and no I'm not a purist, far from it.
(if you want the facts about my '500 clone' though Guillotine I'll PM you the details)

I don't often comments on other peoples mods and you won't find my name in the lambasting Pasco got for his boot spoiler but Panic asked, and I said its his vision and I applaud him for that, but surely you don't expect to ask about such a radical set of changes and get everyone fawning over you.

I can see the facts...

estorils
500 nose...

Cosmetic differences between a 500 and a pre-cat...

estorils
500 nose.

500 clone. Shame, I think there were only 13 (not many anyway) or so proper BVs?
'Course it will have had a front end shunt as the pre-cat noses weren't available from '98 or so, and you wouldn't put one on for fun, but to then add estorils? Tyres sizes? You can still get 15's with a 150mph rating that are OK with insurers so thats no excuse. Like I say, I don't have a problem with any modified car...each to their own. And if the mods done for speed/performance...so much the better.
Panics would be too far for me to. Possibly too dramatic for my needs, though I did consider all of his mods when I was racing. Maybe I just bottled it?

Panic, I think the car looks great, very cool!

On the weight saving side of things you could ditch the AC (I know Cerbera's have this, not sure on Griffith's), go for a separate bell and rotor disc setup (with the advantage of reducing unsprung weight) and fit some nice light weight wheels (SP12's or similar).

TVR's seem fairly difficult to ditch big weight from, I got the best part of 170KG out of the GT4 but I'd have no idea how to get that out of the Cerb!

I have no A/C (from the factory), I bought the car (new) in the '96 insisting in the ''no A/C'' option...

Wheels, I have some lightweight 18/17' rims that Tim of ACT warmly adviced me to buy...I have also the MO Compomotive sizes 17/16'...both sets seem lighter then the stock 16/15' rims, even if larger.

Talking about reducing weight...I've dumped exactly 328 kgs from my C3 Corvette...adding on top of the cake an ''American Speed'' thunderous 575hp 406cid SB, the pic is in my profile.smile

Maybe not going for it, but you're doing a damned good job of achieving it. Well done Andy, you've pissed me off so there you go, you've redressed the balance.
