I bet mine's lightre than yours! ;)
Discussion
Its not often that I get excited about starter motors but, after 5 years of getting hacked off with the age old hot start issues (as you do) even with John Bears excellant products, I've always had this prblem, I decid3ed it was time to spend a little extra and get a "propper starter motor" .
After the fourth starter getting fubar'd I decided it was time to buy a proper race motor even if it does cost twice the price of a std one, but i didn't expect it to be so light, It only weighs 2.7 Kilos! hey UB, neh nah ne nah nah!

as you can see it has an internal solanoid witch is less susceptable to heat soak, and it also has a geared drive and higher output motor for faster engine turnover.
The proof will be in the pudding (i'll be fitting it tomorrow), but I just couldn't believe how light it is!

No heat shield Belchy, I'm of the opinion that it traps heat in, as the starter acts as a heat soak for the main motor.
I thought Dulfords got theirs from the same source Andy, it seems this came from "Brise" and is not the Powerlite from Racemettle. Just hope it performs the same, as it cost the same amount

which one is better , the racemettel or this one ?I thought Dulfords got theirs from the same source Andy, it seems this came from "Brise" and is not the Powerlite from Racemettle. Just hope it performs the same, as it cost the same amount

Mine is the racemettel...
been fine for 3 years, bolts straight on and spins a 5L race engine when red hot. (12.5:1)
Should cope with stock stuff too
Brise are a top outfit H, they were my original choice, but as I recall, they didn't have the correct one available when I needed one and they were about 10% more expensive at the time. More digging found racemettel.
I'm sure this one will be top as well. Looks pretty much the same, same technology etc.
Mine was originally for Nascars!
Mine is wrapped, but my exhaust is different. (isn't everything
)

Yes, I didn't mention but I assumed when I had the manifolds.. ceramic coated it would be the end of starter burn-out. I'm still not convinced that it isn't heat generated inside or even conducted into that fries the damned things
All I can ascertain is that it seems all the solenoids on std versions appear to suffer the same problem eventually? hardly ever the starters just the solenoid throw. Anything that redesigns that area has to have a head start I reckon?

does it work ???? lol
Why is it that nothing in life is ever simple? What should have been a 30min job took 3 hours becuase it wouldn't fit
The connection terminal block sits on top of the starter, and this was fouling the engine casing, preventing the starter motor from sitting flush at the mounting flange.
Initially I thought I would file off some of the black casing only the brass terminal block was only just below the surface and was imediately exposed (block now wrapped in insulating tape
) As it was only fouling the engine casing at a rib and one of the core plug bosses, I spent a couple hours with a Dremmil grinding out a notch for the starter motor to fit. Now that it IS fitted I can say that it DOES Work
I got the engine bay nice and hot and left the bonnet shut. Car instantly fired over without even a hint of slow cranking and it spins the engine over much faster.Bluebottle said:

Even more weight saved...
Good to hear a success story - things are hardly ever straightforward, are they?

got mine running properly on the twin plenum today

- now to adjust the throttle cable back and I'll be sorted Edited by 900T-R on Saturday 30th January 17:58
