Looking to find the easiest 'mounting' solution (non screen mounted) for either a MK1 Garmin Nuvi or an I-Phone with a Nav App

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I've got one in one of my other cars which also only fits a 1-din radio and I'm very happy with it. Large hard disk for music, decent navigation (taken it all over Europe). Screen's a bit small and doesn't like sunshine that much but otherwise perfect. It's not on the market anymore but I've just bought one so they're still out there somewhere, presumably in the UK too.

I've looked for newer 1-din satnavs with harddrive but there's nothing out there since they discontinued this one. Real shame.

Just a personal thing really

I prefer non screen mounted solutions because (in my experience) they never stay on the screen properly

That's why I was looking for an alternative

Have you tried the Nuvi sucker mounting or has it been other devices that have been problematic pod? I have a Widescreen Nuvi and swap it between cars. It's never unstuck itself form the Griffs screen or any other. I can't think of a more optimal position tbh.

Same here, I have the widescreen Nuvi and the sucker mounting it came with seems to bond itself to the screen. Even when you pull the clip back it stays in place and has to be persuaded off.

I have tried

I had a new shape TT for a while and got a bracket made to sit around one of the vents.

Was looking for something similar for the Griff for an I-Phone (more up to date Nav software etc...)

My Nuvi was going to be last resort but you have both given me enough feedback to go and get a sucker mount for the phone

I use a block of dense foam shaped to wedge between the windscreen and the dash top on the right hand side of the steering wheel, then mount a standard cradle to the foam. It holds it at just the right position to tap the screen without taking hands of the wheel. When not in use I just pull out the whole thing and no marks on the windscreen.

No pictures I’m afraid and I’m away for a few days, I’ll post some at the weekend if your interested.

I have 90 degree bent piece of metal, mounted a "stock" iphone holder horizontally onto it and used the gap between the dash and the leather surround to hold it securely in place. I use the bluetooth from the iphone to the radio and it works really well with Copilot. Hope that is of use?

Personally I use one of these: http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/keyword/sat+nav/produc...

Sits on the dash of any of my cars pretty well, hard acceleration and braking can make it slide but on the whole it stays where it should be and is a simple, and transferrable, solution.

Originally this was just a rough trail, but it works so well. You cant actually see it whilst driving and as soon as I park up it all goes in the boot out of site, no windscreen rings.

There’s a piece of Velcro on the pointy end, though I don’t think it needs it. The two screws are self tapped into small pieces of angled metal secured into the block with silicone.



Drilled two holes into the standard cradle for my Pocket PC. These only need to be fastened finger tight.



Push the whole thing into position and plug into the door socket.



The cable traps neatly into the gap between edge of the dash and A pillar trim and holds the wire out of the way whilst the door is open and you can get in and out without snagging it.



You can easily touch the screen without removing you hand from the wheel.



From the outside still looks very neat.

I have attached a couple of photos - sorry for the darkness but were done in haste - if you would like any more info, just give me a shout!! Via bluetooth the instructions come out of the main speakers and, whilst it is not directly in the line of sight, it is very easy to see and use.
