Hi,

We were at Peninsula in Exeter today and we saw a Griffith 500. I am newbie to the world of TVR so can someone tell me what the 500 stands for?

500 little lots of 10cc

10cc were a rock band in the '70s

Therefore, the Griff rocks!

Actually that's a good point, where does the convention originate? We go back to the 350/400/420/450 - but why not call them the 45, or 4500?

There were 3 basic capacities - the 4 litre, the 4.3 and the 5 litre (or 500). There is no discernable difference from the outside between the 4 and 4.3. The 2 main difference between those two and the 500 is the '500' added to the badge on the back and also the front driving laps on the 500 are in the same apperture as the front grill rather than having a pod all to themselves like on the early cars. This isnt always a reliable method of distinguishing the two because the old front end is no longer available and so quite a few early 4 0r 4.3 cars suffering from front end knocks are running around masquerading as 500's. The 500's are all later cars too.

Yes there is - you only ever see the back of a 4.3.

I would hope that any Griff worth its salt would go right through the hedge and do at least a field as well, before stopping
