Great to hear there's been another Griff down in Spain Rob, whereabouts did you get to, by the mileage I'm presuming not as far down as the Costa del Sol?

I had my original shocks replaced last September and, although Nitrons are reckoned to be the business, I had a set of AVOs put on at half the cost. I only use mine on the road am very happy, especially since I stiffened them up a touch last week. The handling is loads better than on the originals.

went all the way down to the costa del sol, spent 3 weeks over there and not an ounce of trouble despite mid 30s heat. car went down a storm. cars now on 91000 miles and seems to be getting better with more miles under it. the v8d upgrades are worth the expense and has transformed the car.

From everyhting I've read (not from experience) it sounds like a set of AVO's would be ideal. They're about half the price of Nitrons (although springs are extra) and I reckon they would be ample for road use. Nitrons would proably be over kill unless you've got lots of money to chuck about.

Or Shane at SFR in Stockport, ex factory race mechanic and I believe has something to do with the build or design of AVOs. Mine were around five or six hundred fitted, can't remember exactly.

How come you got away with only 3000 miles I made it about 3000 just doing Yorkshire to Nerja and back, without the extra 1000 just general hooning around in the sun

Got any pics then?

I had AVOs on my Griff, made the world of difference. I have Nitrons on the Cerbera and they have also made a world of difference. Hard to compare as the cars are different but I would say the Nitrons have made a bigger improvement on the Cerbera thant the AVOs did on the Griff, but the Nitrons have had a lot more setup time than the Griff ever got.

Not really helping much, sorry

Fitted Nitrons to my 92 4.3 and the are very good. I was looking at AVO's but they couldn't supply all four at the time. I also found that I did need springs so that saved some hassle.

Went to the south of France after having them fitted and the car behaved impecably in the mountains.

Probably quite true but dont forget the standard cerb has a lot to catch up on in terms of handling as compared to the griff, so theres much more room for imporvement.

You are joking, right?

I've never driven a Griff, but the Cerb I drove the other day was head and shoulders above my Chim for handling. I'd rate the Cerb as the more 'sorted' of the two any day.

V8S, tried AVOs for a week but hated them and couldn't wait to get rid, the Nitrons cost more but dramatically better to drive .

i'm at oulton tomorow with the S, avo dampers / 650front 450 rear springs / griff 500 sized front brakes / carbon plenum (looks nice but no power gain on 4 litre cars) .. come and see how i get on.
Joo (expecting the rear arms to brek at any time!!)

Well I've driven both (standard setup) on track now, and the cerb was definitely harder to handle in the corners. Wallowed about quite alarmingly. maybe it's just those two particular cars I've driven, but I think most people who have driven both will agree that the cerb can really benefit much more from uprated and stiffer suspension. I think its got a lot to do with the greater weight transfer in the heavier cerb. Mind you, my Grif has recently had a new steering rack and is now pin sharp but the suspension is still original afaik.
