Triple throttle plenum kit
Discussion
Has anyone fitted these and if so did you notice much of a difference? Fantasy stuff really, but I do like window shopping.

I've got the Triple throttle bodies airbox and plenum on my car Goes very well, good throttle response and excellent tractability. But my car also has the MA Tornado chip to re map it all.
Mmmm, do you reckon you need the remap to set it up properly? Also, you don't happen to have a pic do you? Part of the reason I fancy it is how good it'll make my engine bay look. Vain? Moi? Damn right!I have one fitted on a slightly less than standard engine, the throttle response, which I understand is the main benefit is very good. To be honest how much is down to the plenum and how much to the engine mods and having no Air Flow meter is difficult to say. It is obvious that a fair bit of thought went into the design. Things like the trumpets inside the air box that feed the throttle bodies and the profiling of the Airbox itself. Having said that it does seem rather a lot of money for what you get but to be fair Tim made the effort to design it and has to make a living. Not convinced you would see an awful lot of benefit if plonking it on top of a standard engine.
There are a couple of downsides but they are fairly minor. Getting the dipstick in and out is challenging as the air box sits over it. The stick itself will come out but the handle needs some modification. The induction air inlet to the Airbox is not ideally located when fitted in a Griff. It causes the ducting to route over the exhaust manifold more than I would like. The double version presents the inlet in a far better place. Just thought of another thing as well, the standard plenum comes off with a few easy bolts, with this one you seem to be removing small nuts and bolts for days.

Thanks a lot for that. Lots of practical information. I didn't know they did a double version. Mmm, I wonder how much difference I'd notice compared to my 73mm single ACT plenum. I also wonder if I gave up food for a few months whether I could afford it. Mmmm....There are a couple of downsides but they are fairly minor. Triple Throttle Bodies + carbon Airbox + trupmets.
ACT Smoothbore Induction kit
ACT Sports Manifolds with Cat Bypass pipes
ACT SS Cherry Bomb Exhaust System
V8 Developments Stage 3 or 4 heads (Can't remember which)
MA Tornado Chip.
Because of all of that I need a remap. But there is no shunting and the car is very smooth from 1000rpm upwards.

Just get rid of the Dizzy FFS Man !!!I'm fairly sure I'm right in saying that Tim had some help in the design from the actual designers at Rover up in Brum. After the initial design was made up, the new airbox was sent to Rover where the engine designers evaluated it and gave some input on how to optimise the design. So the airbox is well designed and properly evaluated.
I may be not quite right on the details but I know it wasn't just dreamed up one day by Tim! Well worth the dosh if you're looking for a sweet N/A engine IMHO

Just get rid of the Dizzy FFS Man !!!
Hi Paul. The dizzy is still there but it only points the sparks in the right direction. I have an Omex 150 giving 3D ignition timing. Having said that; I will almost certainly be fitting an after market ECU; I just havn't decided which. I've got so much on the boil at the moment it's also finding the time.

The last pics show the double throttle plenum, which is the one on my car (when it's back together). I can't comment on differences with other 500's because I've only ever driven mine, but it certainly looks the biz and my car went like stink. One slight marr is that the bonnet doesn't close properly anymore because of it - I wonder if it's the same with RHD examples. It just about shuts (with some difficulty) but when closed it's slightly raised on the passenger side (driver's side if RHD).
