Ah now I have your attention,just a question for you all.One of my jacks has given up the ghost and I wondered which type to replace it with,I could do with one that is lower when fully down to aid getting it under the Griff.I thought about one of those ally ones but wondered about their manoverability with the solid roller on the front.So can anyone recommend a suitable replacement at a reasonable price.

Here's my honest view of the Machine Mart fancy ali job which I have. Clicky


Cons

• It's not so low as to be able to get it easily under the front of the car. Yes, the lifting plate will get under, but the ruddy body won't so you still can't easily get to the front wishbone attachment area I like to use.
• You need to have the full handle attached to get enough leverage to lift (a bd in a small space, unless you're a fatty and can lay on the half-handle)
• The springs on the handle are too strong and twang the handle into the vertical position (ie. the car) if you just let go of it ( or into your kisser if you let go without thinking )
• The bolts need undoing and loctiting before they undo themselves.
• You need to be very very careful lowering because its a very small twist to change from doing nothing to dropping quickly. OK when you are used to it but don't ask a mate to drop the jack very slowly while you align axle stands to chassis.

Pros

• Its very very light, so moving it around in a small space is a doddle.
• The handle removes and splits in two so it can be transported easily
• It has a nice rubber padded lifting plate
• The roller allows it to move nicely - well, better than my cheapo thing with 4 casters
• It lifts quite high
• For the vain at heart, it looks the business

I had one of those but the seals went.

Replaced it with a Sealey 2.5 tonne about £90 on ebay

I'm treating myself to one of these, maybe a bit over the top but it gives me plenty of room when underneath (800mm)
