Starting issue when hot

Picked the griff up Friday morning and drove it back home not a single issue until I went to use it about 15 mins after I got back home and it would not start not a single thing! jump started it fine, the volt meter is only showing 12 volts ish (points at the little dot under the center line)put the car away and tried it later on that evening and it started fine first time, the car was cold by then. Any ideas what could be up?

I have checked the Alt and it is putting out between 13 -14.4 volts and the warning light is not coming on so I am guessing that its fine and working well.

Other than that I am really pleased with it and it was great fun to drive.

Also anyone know of a good smart repaired either in Northants or Shropshire as I have a stone chip just above the light I want to get sorted and don't really want to paint the whole front end if I can help it.

OK so what a Dave Bear kit then? I assume the issue is heat soak would that be correct?

I am sure that someone will be along shortly to explain how the David Beer kit works, but i had exactly the same issue when trying to start when hot last year. Fitted the said kit, and have had no issues since. Costs about £20 and half an hour to fit.

Jump starting from another battery successfully is not the usual 'hot start' problem IMHO...

Hi Simon,

Hot start problems are unfortunately quite common and some cars have a few extra little quirks just to confuse you even more.

Do a search on Hot Start and you’ll find plenty to read up on, but the first thing to do, as already stated is fit David’s kit. This puts an extra relay into the starter circuit giving the starter solenoid a bit more umph.

Volt meter shouldn’t be low, least mine never is unless the battery is on it’s way out, which is another issue, don’t waste you money on cheap batteries and buy permanent connection battery conditioner, if you can use one that is.

Scole Engineering fitted an additional relay to my Griff's starter solenoid wiring...no further hot starting problems whatsoever.
