Always a good one this Andy. I made the point a few years ago that on both my TVR's the spacer was 8mm thick and yet a supplier sells spacers that are 3mm thick. AFAIK all ball joints are the same width but some have larger heads (oh dear), so how 2x 3mm fit is beyond me. Your joints look like QH, you should have no problems at all if you run the factory settings with them. Mike Virgo had a supply of the smaller headed ones, don't know if he still does it though.
ETA I would have just filed the ends semi-circular instead of going to the trouble of making them look like a 50p piece hehe

Can't some material be removed from the end of the wishbone that's interfering with the balljoint; there's plenty there?

The spacer geometrically affects the caster, but it is funny one because the rake of your chassis is compounded in that angle.

Many have commented that they can't get enough of it, and I've even heard stories of the BJ's being machined down (by the shim area - not the heads for camber) wink

You have got the correct ball joints, these are the SAAB ones and do have a slightly larger head casting. I’ve had them on mine now for a couple of years.

Just file the casting locally and a put a nice radius on the end of the wish bone. It doesn’t actually need much, just do a bit at time you’ll see.

Cheers,

Simon.

Cheeky bugger... Thems precission engineered them ishehe

I got these Ball joints from Mike, about 18 months or so agohehe He's not doing any of this stuff anymore, so I'm stuck with them nowsmile
Strange they look like QH, the ones Mike sold me were Federal Mogul (MOOG??) and had the original style smaller head. IIRC FAI do the smaller headed ones as well if you can get them. Yours will obviously be fine it's just a bit of info for anyone really

Oh boy are you gonna have fun at speed. rofl Turn in is ace with even spacers but at the expense of stability. In bike terms you've gone from a chop to a trials bike yikes

The simplest solution is just to lop a bit off the end of the wishbone and use the *right* spacer wink

Are you sure this BJ head size thing is not a Saab version thing rather than a difference in manufacturers (ie try 99 rather than 900 or various years)?

I wandered round the parts bin with my local Saab boys, they've beefed them up a fraction over the years hence the difference. I've got a pair of "Mike's" on mine, can't remember who made them. As I said, if you get stuck it's definitely easier to shorten the wishbone than grind the head of the BJ yes
