oiling the throttle cable

Anyone got a tip for doing this?

Its just another of my 'just in case' jobs since I haven't touched it in the 5yrs I've had the car so there's no panic, but is there a trick to doing it without an oiler?
Is it worth just replacing it instead, next time I have the drivers seat out?

Undo other end, hang it high & drip oil in




Put a cloth at the other end

Whenever you take the dipstick out... dribble/scrape the oil onto the throttle cable & bonnet release cable..

I've never oiled my cable for fear of dirt tracking into the sheathing on the oil, what are other peoples thoughts on this?
