Its MOT time - some advise please...

First time in my ownnership that the Griff needs a ticket. I'm aware that the front end is quite low, especially the "splitter", and am concerned that it may be an issue at the testing station. Anyone with any experience?

I normally get this stuff done by a local place that does only MOT testing so would prefer to go there but don't want to loose the splitter when they drop the car into the brake tester!!

My other obvious option would be to take it to Racing Green but I prefer to go watch the test, get a good nose around underneath while it is up on the ramps...and if stuff needs doing it will be cheaper to do it myself.

Anyway advise would be appreciated

This is right,do not let them roller brake test the car,a Taplow meter is needed to test the braking force,and needs a short drive with it in the passenger footwell (latest ones are handheld and much smaller and lighter) to measure the the brakes effectiveness..... and by short i mean a few yards so dont let them fob you off by saying they need to take it for a blat

That would be good, I really appreciate it if you could dig it out. At least I know that they will be used to testing TVRs

Rob, I use Racing Green for Mot's and they are very good at giving the car a good looking over. I trust them to repair things as they go, they replaced a splitting fuel pipe which I would never have spotted without a lift.

You obviously pay but in my view, its worth it IMHO.

Yeah I know, I'm relatively new to the Griff but have a lot of mechanical experience on my other cars and if I don't do some work myself then I'll never get to know the car mechanically.

My experience with Racing Green so far has only been good, I just want to get to know the car and the labour cost is more painful when you know you could do the job yourself!

quinnny,what is reason why you should not use brake rollers with a LSD,here in ireland we don't seem to have the option of the rollers or mechanical tester,just the rollers are used..

Yep both my impreza and griff never get brake tested on the rollers,lsd's and 4 wheel drive systems dont like being seperated and independantly moved and stopped.

I was surprised when they didnt test the brakes on the rollers but even more surprised (and very pleased) when the car passed the emissions test with a decat y piece!
