Front wheels on later cars

Most cars came with 16x7.5 rears 15x7 fronts and were fitted with smaller rolling diameter rubber at the front to give a slight nose down attitude. I think the later cars came with 16x7.5 all round. From the factory were the front tyres still half an inch or so smaller than the rear ?

Yes they were. What I'd like to know is whether they did anything about the offsets - front wheels were ET26 and rears ET35 so if you put rear wheels of the front your track would be 18 mm narrower (and the steering geometry somewhat off?).

Good morning , can i just ask a quick question as you are on the subject already! im soon to fit 16" estorils to the front of my car, what tyre size would be best to go with my rears which are 245/45/16 ?

Not sure about the offsets etc, but looking at mine, the rear wheels have a more dished appearance than the fronts, therefore I always assumed they were a wider wheel, tyres are a lower profile and narrower size on the front too.

I'll have a look tomorrow when I get the car out again.

225F & 245R / 45 / 16's as well and like at least one other no PAS no problem

So that keeps it nose down by half an inch as per the early ones. 24.6 on the rear 23.6 on the front. Thanks for that

18mm?? have you forgotten the 12mm difference in width, or don't you work on the centrelines?

I can see that you are confused since you've made this mistake before. ET, or Einpress Tiefe, is measured from the c/l so the wheel widths are irrelevant.

Ignore me, I'm fixated on contact patches affected by wheel / tyre sizes rather than wheel / chassis dimensions.

Always thought 225 section tyre on the front was for pas equiped cars,and 215 for non assisited versions...... having changed from the former to the later it made mine a lot easier parking wise.
