I've been trying to flog my 4.3 precat for about 6 weeks now with little luck, obviously its advertised on here

and I've also tried an Ebay classified and its now in auto trader as well
Now have I overpriced it? Or have I somehow written the ad is such way that screams 'avoid' the latter is possible as my subconscious may be trying to hang on to it....

very short mot, doesnt help
the wheels are dredful and really let the car down.
for close to 11k, if i was looking, id be looking at a possible bill for mot (always put off by cars being sold just before mot is due) and id be wanting new wheels before i drove it anywhere. which is now close to cerb money

I don't think it's overpriced Matt, but there seems to be a mindless "must have PAS, SERP, T5, BTR blah blah" indoctrinating a large proportion of buyers into believing older cars must be crap...
I guess you just have to wait until someone that knows the pro's of an early one comes along

The wheels do let it down, they look smaller than standard.
I'd add details of service history - there's no mention of it on the ad.
"Some polybushes as well" - seems an odd statement - be specific about what's been changed
Generally in the ad if you know when something was changed/upgraded - state it; it all helps to show this car has been cared for regularly and you know what you are talking about.
If you have any info about the state of the chassis (especially pictures) I'd put that up there too. You know that if anyone serious about buying a Griff is going to be very interested about that. Regular waxoil treatment really doesn't tell me anything about the condition of the chassis.

sorry if not the reply you were looking for, but it is my opinion.
on everyday cars, yes its not such an issue, but on a tvr known to have rust issues costing 2 to 3k, its a major problem.
when i bought my chimaera, long mot was a must
I've also just bought a 4.3 and did look at your ad. I don't think the price is too much of a problem but as others have said, TBH the wheels put me off. This is not a big thing, I appreciate but would have probably cost another £500 to sort out.
I think if you're selling any sort of car like this, 12 months MOT - even if you put in your ad that you will MOT it before the sale - basically says that you're confident of the vehicles roadworthiness and there are no nasty (MOT related) surprises. With a TVR, there are lots of other things which might go wrong but a new MOT will give most buyers some reassurance about chassis, brakes etc. Whether it should, is another matter....

to tidy up the under bonnet pic.Looks like a good car Matt, nice spec, sensible upgrades (espcially alloy rad and twin fans).

Get rid of the references to the car being a Hot Rod and very quick or very powerful. You sound like a boy racer who could have thrashed this car to death.

Make a big deal of some facts
62k miles (less than 3,500 miles for each of its 18 years)
Well known and bullet proof Rover based 4.3 litre engine with;
New clutch LESS THAN 2K MILES AGO
New gearbox LESS THAN 12K.
NEW front tyres (Toyo)
5-6 mm Rear tyres (Toyo)
These are things people worry about.
List the upgrades as a proper list;
Upgrades
Front brakes upgraded to later 500 spec
Braided hoses all round
Uprated ECU chip (Mark Adams)
Gaz shocks all round
Alloy Radiator
ACT Exhaust Manifolds
Stainless sports exhaust
Anti Rollbar (featured on later cars, not usually found on Pre-cats)
Smooth bore air intake elbow
Polybushed ARB and front lower wishbones.
Forget the mention of the plenum isolator - no bugger will know what it means and you can drop it in the conversation with prospective new owners as a give-away freebie.
The picture of the engine bay is scary.
Mismatch silicone elbow colour
Mismatch HT lead colour
Bandaged manifolds
I'd change the HTs and retake the picture. Insulate the lower air intake hose - it can be done cheaply with foil stuff - so the colour mismatch and the nasty rover lower intake isn't obvious.
The interior shot could be made better by shooting it from a different angle.
The shot you've got highlights mismatch handbrake button and alloy fan heater control button.
Neither are bad things but the photo doesn't do the interior justice
Try taking a shot from the other side and above the handbrake and heater panel. It will just look less busy.
Please take all that as friendly constructive criticism and feel free to ignore any or all of it.
Either way I wish you the best of luck with the sale.

price wise I'd say it's about right for an average one. I'd expect £8.5k bottom of market/rough one, for a good one £13k....a minter £15k.

I think Ian's comments are very well founded, it's funny the things that put people off cars are not necessarily the most obvious, it's some of the stuff mentioned raises subconscious flags like the HT leads.
If it were me and as painful as it may seem, perhaps rather than offering to MOT, go and get another 12mths on it, 'fresh MOT'. Replace the handbrake grip for an ally one. Buy Howard a beer for the HT leads.
Buy some R222 Total Auto Wash and 303 Aerospace Protectant and clean that engine bay, make it look as loved as we know it has been, we only know that because we're familiar with the owner. A new to the marque interested party will not have that history.
Whilst the weathers favourable get the car into the sunshine with a polarizing filter and get the great colour of your car to come through, if you've not got a camera that will, I'm sure you'll know someone. Get some photos with the roof off, we're heading into the summer and you want to remind them that's one of the reasons to buy it.
The wheels look OK to me, not my choice, however, they do look very flat, there's no a shine to them and I don't doubt your paintwork is shiny and nice, but the photo's do not do it justice.
