Cigar lighter not working ? Help

So I have just returned to the fold after a 10 year gap !!

I have bought a Griffith 500 to keep that had a few little issues radio not working ( took plug out put back in now all works) and a couple of other really minor issues I have sorted.

However the one thing I cant sort is the cigar lighter ( the horn works si its not the fuse in theory) so how can I get it out I assume its a door card off job ( which I cant see how to do either !!)

Might be a dumb question, but are you sure it's not working? Mine will light a cigar (as if i ever felt the need), but for some reason will not power my tyre inflator.
Assume it's something to do with the current draw.

I had the same problem with the cigar lighter not working although there was 12V to it.
It was just surface corrosion of the internal parts (screw in copper insert and steel body). Fixed by removing cigar lighter from the arm rest, stripping it down and cleaning up the internals.

Yes !!! Had that out cant seem to get to it do you have to take the door card off ?

Took the door panel off mine 3 or 4 weeks ago took about 15 minutes. why not pull it off and check for live feed at base of lighter unit, could be broken wire in door shut,,,

yes you have to take the door card off to remove the lighter

I have the panel off and I seem to have two feeds one solid red (unconnected at the moment) and one red / white connected.

When I connect the solid red one I get a permanent feed 12v and the cig lighter works, when I attach the red / white one I get about 4amps only when the car is switched on.

Are there any issues with attaching the 12v permanently ?

They are usually permenantly live so you can use accessories and charge it with the ignition off.
