Replaced my Right-off - Yipeeee
Discussion
Dear PistonHeaders,
Just wanting to share my happiness: After owning my first black Griff 500 for only six weeks, I did a 'little' damage to her on boxing day dodging some little kid testing his new mountain bike out on the A52. I was GUTTED. But know I have purchased another, and its my favourite colour - black. I did have to drive from Derby to Edinburgh and back in a day though just to get a deposit on it, but hey it was worth it, and now the nights are getting lighter I can get back to enjoying a piece of Trevors finest!
While I'm here does anyone know if the manifold gaskets on my pre serp 500 are a Rover item - I 've got a bit of a ticking from one side??
Cheers,
From one Damn happy youngen

i changed the manifold gaskets on my 500 a year ago,the car had covered 6,000mls but this was the second time they had been done ,the first time rover gaskets had been used you can tell by the colour 4.4 i think but they just crumbled i was told by a TVR dealer that they and rover had both had problems with the gaskets since asbestos was baned and both had tried many materials but the dealer told me the TVR ones were now as good as asbestos and would give no problems they have now done over 4,000 mls and are fine ,its such a pain to do i would say buy the TVR ones use new bolts and spring washers and use copper grease on the bolts into the heads. If your manifold to Y piece joints are the earlyer flange type with bolts through you will need new gaskets for them but if its the later type with a ring clamp you just need a tube of exhaust sealer ,it took me a day and a half to do mine ,the bolt at the back of the engine both sides is the pig to get to and dont tighten the manifolds hard to the heads until you have conected both sides to the Y piece hope this is of some help .

Hope the accident wasnt too bad for you.
What has happened to the written off Griff?
Would be interesting to here were it went. Please email me more info.
