Griff Shocks , What is Available

Been quoted the Laughable/Ludicorous figure of 600 quid for 4 Bilsteins (my prefered choice, the quality is superb) by one of the so called specialists . Bilstein uk ,say that they are no longer available . ?
What other shocks are available and what is the likely cost ?

You may get a used set of Billys for quite a bit less, but they're not that common. To be fair, Quinny, I think you may have had the bargain of the
year so far !!

In the £600 bracket, and from personal experience I can recommend Gaz Golds Pros, fitted these last year and have made quite a difference to the car. Next step up
for me would be Nitrons, alot swear by them on here, bit I couldn 't justify the extra money as I use the car for spirited road driving rather than serious track days, so maybe next time around. I'm sure someone will be along in a moment to clear up the
fact that Nitrons are worth the extra even for road use.
Finally, the money no object choice of Ohlins.

There are many other options too, just search on here and you'll have plenty to read up on.

I also need some new shocks. What is the price difference between Gaz, Nitrons and Ohlins and are the Bilsteins considered better than Gaz (If I can find some)

also, what tyres should I get for my pre cat Griff. I would prefer standard sizes but would be interested in advice about which brand

I have a 94 griff 500 and i went for racing reds (approx 600 pounds delivered) all round and toyo 888's (approx 500 pound delivered to my local tyre fitter) and i find the car very planted,i was advised to get the same footprint all round by the supplier and the car performs well even in the wet.

the above was helped by the geo adjustment and shock set to fast road rather than track setting.

footprint is 225 all round,i did think it was odd to come down on the back from 235's but even without PAS once driving (parking still heavy steering)feel and grip is excellent.

I would check with your insurance company,, It might handle better but you will find your not insured.. Trust me , I deal with them every day & if not standard fitment or larger not insured...

Thanks for your replys guys , i used to work in the Orig equip/Aftermarket Shock absorber industry for one of the Leading brands and know how vital it is to have good suspension as worn shocks can drastically effect stopping distance and many other things. And Ohlins....If only.

First Griff i fitted with Green Bilsteins (This Early 96 car already had these Green units on , they looked like the Orig units so presumeing they were Orig Equip ?) on the Rear and some Black units with an adjust ride hight on the front . Cant remember which brand but one drive on a salty road saw them corrodeing v. badly. Were they Nitron units ? They came from one of the so called "Specialists" .
The Yellow Sport Bilsteins would be my prefered choice if i could get some ,but is it worth going for a shock with an Adjust ride hight?
Which other companys supply TVR Shocks ?

I own 2 body shops in London & Croydon . I have at least 2 claims a month thrown out on simple things like this,, Im 100% sure if your car is written off in a accident of any kind & your car in inspected you wont get a penny,,,

IIRC 225 is standard fittment on all the fronts from 96 onwards for PAS cars?

Racing Reds all round, just fitted for me by Neil Garner of Neil Garner Performance Engineering. He swears by them! Good enough for him, good enough for me! Took my Gaz ones off fitted by the previous owner not that long ago and ..............

They had just started to crack........ Beware!

Which model of Gaz shocks were fitted marz ? I believe it was the earlier Gaz Golds that were effected, not the Gaz Gold Professionals. I'd be interested to hear if I'm wrong for obvious reasons.
