GRIFF500 (Slow G.change/More power ) Vs 09 REG CARERA 4S
Discussion
Not amused , had to give second best to a Jacko in an 09 Carrera 4S last night. And it shouldnt have happened.
Still getting used to the Griff ,should have been in second gear and think ? i was in 3rd when he floored it . My 98 car has been played about with , as far as i know the spec is modified inlet manifold, enlarged trumpet base, modified trumpets, enlarged plenum, Jag air flow meter, 218 Hybrid Camshaft , chip and de-catted. i have a dyno showing 297 BHP @6,063 RPM and 310LBS Torque. At idle it smells too rich.
I intend when funds allow to get it put on a rolling road, however one of the things i am not happy with is the Gear Change. The Griff Gearbox/Gearchange isnt the slickest or the fastest, Upshifts are tolerably quick, but downshifts are Very slow and heavy, if the Gearchange/gearbox was nicer and faster to use the car would be quicker . Can anything be done to make it a faster change ?
Ie a Longer gearlever i am sure would help make gearchanges qicker, also is it a remote linkage box ?
Any ideas anyone ? Also , what are the next steps to more power from this Engine ?

Driven my mates Carrera 4S and the gear change was no slower than mine?
The box is not as tight as my T5 so the stick movement requires a little less force...I still managed to miss the 3rd gear gate as I do with my T5 tho
E.T.A. if your Griff is making near 300bhp or over, then a 4s wouldn't stand a chance In the dry. in the wet the four wheel drive and T/C is really impressive

Something doesn't sound right there, i was all over a 996 carrera 4s at castle coombe last year when my Griff was producing 266bhp and 330lbs ft, it's now supercharged and over 400bhp.i only play with GT3RS's now he he
Super charging ,, can you fill me in on the price & who fitted it,,And have you had any problems, thinking of either this or Nitros,,Thanks guys for all your replys , to say that i am gutted re that 997 last night is an understatement,i am really p.....off. think i was in 3rd when he nailed it and i should have been in second, and ime sure i was slowly reeling him in , when he backed right off.
Dyno chart i have def gives those figures , but they were about 5 yrs ago . My car belonged to a well known TVR Figure , so some of you may know it ?

You lot really should have some respect for Porkers, don't under estimate them! They really can handle !
Roy
lol, No they can't!...they're well over half a ton heavier than a tiv and all the weight is in the wrong place hanging out over its aRSe, thats why its rear tyres are see naff'n wide.Roy
Its a master piece in making an inherently floored design handle reasonably well, I'll grant you that

I love TVR's but put yourself through some twisties with one. Not a f---ing chance !! Don't kid yourself !!
I'm at Combe next month interloping with the Porsche owners club again, you're welcome to a pax lap and I'll show you just how slow porkers are thru the twisty bits on track against a well set up tiv
...I love the smell of pork in the morning
My friends 996 RS couldn't keep with me last time out NA, he now has a twin Turbo and I now have a blown 5.2, should be intersting...I'm hoping to get close to his son's lap times in his Noble this time

good heel and toe technique is a must for a quick smooth gearchange and avoids dangerous lock ups when changing down, IMHO the T5 box suits the characteristics of the TVR/Rover engine, unfortunately it's not so good when paired with the S6 (IMHO) the S6 engine really needs a sequential box with auto blip to get the best from it on a track which will enable you to keep the revs above 4/5k all the time, with that combination a good 4 litre S6 would be epic on track,
though with the Rover/TVR engine that has loads of low down talk/talk I find the T5 very good especially if you have good heel and toe technique.

Depends what you're comparing.Put a Chim Griff against a similarly aged 991...and watch the 911 fly off into the fields.
If comparing a Chim Griff against a £70k 997...they can out run them, you just need to spend abit

Either way the Tiv can out do a Porker £ for £
(BTW the 997RS IS a masterpiece...they do nothing for me however as I'm an old fart!)
