Handbrake heating.....how do i get it insulated?

94 Griff 500 going in for annual service soon so may be i can fix this problem, over the weekend with warmer weather the car ran fine (has ali rad upgrade and cooling mod) whilst the gearknob was cold to warm the Handbrake lever was so hot i thought it was going to set fire to the leather

has anyone encountered the same problem and resolved it?

any thoughts?

They are all hot I think, I'd resolve it by opeinng out the bore of the ally surround and fitting a plastic sleeve ( something from wickes perhaps?)
