Having some difficulty deciding on a figure to ask for my much loved Griff 500, before it funds a down payment on one of Mr Porsche's finest...

1996 P reg, starmist blue with doeskin half hide, power steering, tracker, cat 1 alarm. 79,000 miles with FTVRSH, recent new Bilsteins, hood restitch and lots of Leven bits and a good 4-speaker CD stereo. Just MOT'd with 4 months Motorway Direct 5 star warranty left. Bodily and mechanically excellent, and totally reliable.

Basically I feel it's a great honest example but I want to make sure the mileage-adjusted asking price is fair.

Thanks for any advice!

Sounds a bit like mine. Mine is a 95 N Stamist / Full Magnolia Hide, with decent r/c with 4 speakers and dukebox, accumate, PAS. It had about 72k on it two years ago when I bought it privately. I paid £13500 privately but it needed a service and a clutch (£1k).

I reckon now, with 82k on the clock, I might get £14k privately, but to be honest I think it's worth more to me than than. I did think about trading it for an F355 or a Tuscan, but having considered that realistically it's stopped depreciating, it's the quintessential British sportscar and is everything I like in a car, I won't sell it.

However, keep an eye on Sprint, if you're a TVRCC member, or Autotrader on line for some examples.

Stick it in for £14995 and gauge reaction. If you're trading it in, I wouldn't be surprised if the Porsche dealer won't touch it. He'll get it underwritten and you'll probably be offered nearer £10k.

Yes, your suggestion £14995 is not far from my gut feeling that pitching it at £14495 ono was a fair opening tactic.

Gave it a really good spring clean yesterday and went for a long drive as it was a glorious day, and I have to say I was almost reconsidering the decision to sell...

Why are you changing, as a matter of interest?

Funny story actually...I hired a Boxster whilst waiting for work to be done on the Griff and loved it! The Griff of course is fabulous to drive and much more handsome, but without a garage the Porker is a more practical drive, and I like changing my cars regularly. I liked the way it sensed your mood, good for motorway cruising as well as B road blasts.

Did toy with the idea of having both but Boxster prices are very firm so no cheap cars around...

Fair enough. By the sounds of it, it's you're only car. I think if I was in that situation I might resign myself to the same.

I just love the almost kit car quality of the Griff. Sounds strange, I know, but I think part of the reason I don't like to Tuscan is it's almost too mainstream. The very fact that people buy it, who a few years ago would have automatically bought a Porsche, is reason enough for me not to want one. It's not the exclusive little club of people who really know and aren't letting the secret out.

I had a Mk 1 MX5 before that. I didn't like the Mk2 for the same reason. It looked too 'normal' inside.

I haven't driven a Boxster, but I am sure I wouold be impressed if I did.
