Suspension set up in Cambs area
Discussion
Can anyone recommend somewhere to get a Griff 500 suspension set up in an around Cambridge with an indication of the cost.
I recently paid for Gaz Golds, complete bush change out, and had it set up (apparently) for ride height and damping as part of getting the suspenders and bushes changed, but it's still very twitchy, choppy, and on the fen roads can get frisky enough that it's restricting the use of the loud pedal in a straight line.
Maybe it's me ... but I just can't get confidence to start pushing the car. Perhaps I should get out in a well sorted Griff to understand what the ride should be like??
They (those that fitted it all) also said alignment was good (per factory settings) so it's no good taking it back there, and it's wearing P3 tyres at the moment (which could be part of the issue I guess - I use TVR manual recommended pressures which do seem a little low).
Any suggetsions appreciated

What the hell are P3 tyres? We have some Avons we when bought the car and it was shocking, so binned them and got some Toyos - huge difference. The OE Bridgestones have a stiff sidewall so the 22 fonts/24 rear factory pressures are too low for softer sidewall tyres. Most seem to go 24 front/26 rear so you might try that as a starting point. Some tyres just don't work however good the rest of the set up is!

In fairness .. and not to knock them because they've done a superb job on everything else .. Offord are the ones who installed the Gaz Gold and set the car up in the first place ... it's been back to them, but the ride is still somewhat off still IMHO.
Does anyone think it's the S03's? Anyone else using S03's and get's good results?
Failing all that I guess a trip to Wisbech may be in order.

Not sure how old the SO3's are but they could well be past their best. Check the manufactured date:

If they are over 5 years old I'd suggest changing them as they deteriorate quickly from 5 years and even faster if not used regularly. I can't believe the amount of drivers who are still on SO2's and even some on SO1's as they're driving on a ticking timebomb.
I thought SO3 production stopped a good while ago so even if you had old stock they could have been a couple of years old when you got them.

Almost on your doorstep (nr Wisbech) is Matt at Sebring International (ex-Barnet TVR) 01354 638678
Matt knows his stuff, fitted and set my suspension up beautifully.
Another vote for Matt here! He also set up and built Kevin Gores Tuscan for the TVR challenge race series.Matt knows his stuff, fitted and set my suspension up beautifully.
Hi Paul
nice to meet you last weekend.Edited by Zippee on Friday 11th June 16:58
Booked in with Sebring - Spoke to Matt on the phone and we are going to do full wheel alignment, an set up and go from there with me having a little jaunt out in between fiddling. Lets see where we go.
He made some good points over the phone about cars feeling jittery if set up with lots of camber, and track set up isn't necessarily what you need for Fenland roads
)
Anyhow .. will report back once I've been there on the 30th of this month

I can't praise Sebring service enough. Matt was informed, chatty, and following initial bouncing in the car park, he took the car for a quick ride, proclaimed it way too hard and hitting the bump stops, and then took her round the back for geometry checks and set up. He popped back into the showroom (jeesh those Sebring MXRs look nice) a couple of times to let me know - the first time to say the reason the car was feeling hard and hitting the bump stops was that the rear ride height was too low, and that I had no rake, with way too little travel on the rear. Then popped in a little while later to say the geometry was checked, was way out, and he had set that up and was going to check the car out with a drive. I saw him back a forth a couple of times in the car, before he handed me the keys.
Well ... what can I say - handling is a revelation. The ills were the poor geometry, and rear ride height too low. Damping was about right with one additional click added to the rear .... but the changes to geometry and ride height now have a car that does not break loose except under severe provocation, and a relatively compliant ride. The biggest change is I now have confidence to push the car, and it will accept throttle to drive off the corner where in the past it would threaten to exit stage left or right. Matts warning to check speed through favourite corners was exactly the right thing as a quick squirt down the local roads confirmed that the car now was unflustered through a well known set of twisties at 10-15 mph over speeds that previously had the car feeling too close to the edge for comfort.
2 hours labour charged (100 quid) and a very happy customer, I can't recommend them enough. I know where i'll be taking the car in the future if I need the services of a TVR sepcialist.
