Ok so car is back, wooot!! smile

Anyone know if this sounds right?

Work done= supm off, main and big end bearings replaced (all that can be without engine removal), front cover and oil pump replaced, put back together + road test.
£1200 in labour alone, I bought all the parts myself apart from oil and filter.

I had been quoted £1500 worst case when it was going to be an engine out job, but from my limited knowledge engine out would have been 10x more work, With ramps to make life easy is there 24 hours work?, or am I talking rubbish?

I would never confess to being a mechanic, But worked on cars all my life , Owning bodyshops for the last 37 years, In that time ive rebuilt a few Engines, Never done a bottom end rebuild with crank in situ.
I would like to see how its done just to be very nosey, trouble enough getting mains in straight & bolting caps on without it nipping up when torqued up.
But another point why would you change mains & end , without grinding crank,
If some ones charging 1200 pounds or anywhere near that amount & it starts Knocking again or still has no oil pressure isnt that a waist of money when the crank would only cost , what £80ish to have checked & machined,

The idea is to change the bearings before the crank wears wink

Not that I advocate, but can understand why some do it. ..and the bootlace might be even easier to use with crank in situ to get some spit & polish on hehe
