Re Pre cats in Germany

Hi all,

I've had a serious enquiry regarding my 4.5BV that I have for sale. the prospective purchaser lives in Germany and sounded very keen on the car. However, he has been told by the ex TVR importer taht as it's a pre cat and of 1992 vintage, it cannot be imported without a huge amount of compliance work.

Has anyone here sold a pre cat to Germany? Is the above true?

Surely they just need to put a set of catted manifolds+y-piece on to get through TUV? At least they only have to do it every 2 years rather than anually

Sounds a bit of a tall tale to me. My early 96 N-Reg Model went to Germany in 08. It had been DE-Catted, and all the guy was concerned about was finding and fitting some cats back to it to get the equivalent of our Mot test , which is called a TUV.

Dont think thats true.. As I sold my Precat 4.0 To a guy in Holland a few years ago without any problems whatsoever... Unless things have changed recently.

I think a lot of the problems importing are getting the type approval letter which used to be freely available from the factory. I guess how co-operative the (ex/last) main importer is determines the ease of getting one, and last I heard the German support wasn't great + they insisted personally doing a full inspection of the specific car (at great cost)IIRC?

Well, I am German and i wonder why I couldn´t read the chap´s question on the german TVR board. Anyway, we have strict MOT and emission testing every two years. A car that left Blackpool with cats won´t pass the required tests if it´s de-cated or so. A factory pre cat will require some additional paperwork, as it has to pass the emission tests for ´92 cars, which as far as I know require some sort of (working) cats. But no rule without exceptions. He could ask the Regierungspräsident (chief of regional gouvernment) for special permission for this car. Takes some time (and money of course), but nothing´s impossible...

High Green Griff, have you by any chance come accross my old 96 one ? It went to Germany, not far from Munster, although the guy worked for Porshe at Stutgart.

No, mine is a ´94, and I´m sad I don´t work for Porsche...
