Don't bother.. leave it as it is.. save the dosh... have a nice drivable car.. keep the torque you enjoy... and come in 10 BHP behind modified cars at the Growl shootout!! you won't even notice it on the road

A smooth bore 90 deg elbow is worth £30 though !!

Took a week to install, been on the road very almost 2 years now and 12k miles. Driven pretty much every day come rain or shine! If you do it properly, don't use a badly built brand new engine and put in some proper engine management to control it rather than pushing the Lucas far past it's design limit then its pretty well bullet-proof with getting on for double the standard power output. Can't see why people would go any other route - plenty of people spend the same amount for a lumpy idle and half the power gain.

Was that directed at me Nick?Apart from it blowing a compression ring and melting a piston four days after installing it on my original engine yeah, its pretty well bullet proof...lol

No issues with the Lucas setup for me, once I replaced my dodgy dizzie
. All my issues lay elsewhere, although it took over 12 months for it to be diagnosed and during that time the ignition system was repeatedly blamed for it when in fact it was sticking valves causing the pushrods to pump up causing the ignition issues. As for purely built new engines, yeah well, I shan't ever be recommending a certain well rspected engine building Co. in the future.
Leave it standard, mine has had two rebuilds after a 'power mod' maybe 3k miles in total and learnt last week after the car being returned non running, now it is running, it's knackered. There was a gap between it being returned non running and now, it has never been driven so not where to go. Interesting times ahead, me thinks! Oh, over ten grand spent.

So far the £30 for the smooth elbow sounds good,Yorkshire thrift-like that!
Super/turbo chargers- may as well get a Jag XKR
Handling/brakes-set of red/yellow pads+R888s?
Any more?
Yorkshire Thrift indeed... no.. once bitten, twice shy.. if it's good, don't mess... read a few posts on here... you'll get folk saying that out of a group, a standard car is one of the best for all round use...Super/turbo chargers- may as well get a Jag XKR

Would love a blower though but what about bottom ends?
.
David.. sorry to hear it... it puts my issues in their place with what you've spent.. blimy!... if only we could have our time again.. I for one would have left well alone!!
.
Brakes and suspention sound good to me

Anyway, back to the topic! In all seriousness, for starter mods, I'd go with an induction kit, 72mm plenum, trumpets, and smooth pipes. After that, cam and heads or blower

Finished the interior, now looking at under the bonnet. Looking at upgrading over a few years, as and when dosh available.
Which mods are the best for £s v BHP.
At the moment the car is a standard Griff 500.
Any thoughts?
the first thing you should ask yourself is what do I want the car to achieve?Which mods are the best for £s v BHP.

the list of mods can be endless and your wallet will suffer, especially if you pay others to do the work for you.
I ended up getting 337bhp from my 5lt and then decided that enough was enough, and changed the engine, in some ways I wish I`d have saved a lot of time and money and left the 5lt more or less standard, and then just changed the engine for somthing else, but once you get the hp bug you just keep going

I would change the inlet pipe to a smooth bore and a set of trumpets, as already mentioned, remove the precats from the manifolds, and leave the engine alone if its healthy, then a decent set of shocks and a full geometry set up which makes a huge difference.
if you are looking to get up to 350bhp from a 5lt then consider an alternative engine sooner rather than later, as you will be considering cams, lifters, rockers, ecu plus mapping, plus a whole load of costly bits and bobs.
as for supercharging I think 450nick must be one of the few people who have successfully fitted one of these and has had no running problems, I stand to be corrected on this as I don`t know a great deal about the sc but I do know that a few people have gone down this road and the picture does`nt end up as rosy as you are first led to believe.
