Slipping Clutch

Ladies & Gentlemen, at 16K miles my 500's clutch needs replacing. Would anyone happen to know the best place to buy a clutch kit(if they do such a thing), are the main dealers the best source??

P.S Dealer wants £520 + vat to supply and fit,sound a reasonable price??

Had mine done at Team Proactive (now deceased) a couple of years ago. Think it was about £450 fitted + VAT, but as a non-franchised dealer, their labour rates were a bit lower - £45 ph, so your quote probably isn't far off.

Try TVR Power as their rates are low (£43 ph I think). While you're there, have a Taraka.

Would you say dealers are the best place to source a new clutch as i'll probably tackle the job myself.

I don't know if the clutch is special or std Rover, but most dealers will be honest and tell you if it is. If it's standard you might find it cheaper on the internet.

It's a Range Rover item I think. Circa £280 plus VAT from a TVR or RR dealer. Might be able to buy cheaper from a specialist. Then circa 4 hours to fit?

I had my clutch plate pressure plate and thrust race replaced on my 500 Griff at Blackpool £245 there were doing a service at the same time but that is very reasonable and of course they do a super job.

Thanks guys. Apparently you can just about get away with fitting a RR(4.6 ltr £150+vat) unit to a 4 LTR car but not anything above this capacity. The 500's is a TVR modified unit.3 piece kit-£344+vat to you sir,thankyou v.much.

Would love to know how TVR 'modify' a clutch.......

TVR Power are £130 for the pressure plate and £120 for the fricton plate (or the other way around) + VAT of course. Seems quite cheap to me, and you're sure to get the right part.

Worth fitting a new release bearing and release fork as well. And checking oil seals.
