How do you disconnect the ECU?

I need to disconnect the ECU. The plug looks like a huge scart plug and feels like it is welded in place. Is this normal and is there a nack to freeing up this plug? Cheers.

There is a plastic clip one end that you need to squeeze, then the plug will come free. However the opposite end from the clip hooks into the ecu body so you need to release the clip and unplug the clip end first.

Thanks for that, Steve. Just to make sure I understand...One end has a litte push down catch and the other looks like it clicks into place. The push down catch doesn't seem to be the problem. It's the other end which is very tightly fixed. Is it one of those catches that you have to push a screwdriver in because your fingers aren't strong enough. Sorry for the clarification - I just don't want to break it.

Here is a pic of one. In the pic the catch is to the left and to the right you can see a loop of plastic. Part of the plug hooks under the loop so you need to release the catch on the left and pull the catch end out first. The loop end will not move until the plug is out sufficiently to unhook it.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain that, Steve. I understand what you are saying, but my plug is welding in tighter than a duck's arse. I wanted to reset the ECU to see if it solves my very low idle problem before I bought a new stepper motor. The way I figure it is that I'm likely to do a lot of damage disconnecting the ECU so I'm just going to buy the stepper motor and if it doesn't work I'm sure I can sell it again for minimal loss. I need a cake...blood sugar dropping and getting grumpy.

If you disconnect the battery completely it will also reset the ECU unless there is a battery I'm unaware of in the ECU. . . .

Otherwise, some WD40 won't harm it, one end is a clip you puch down and then other end kinda hinges . . .

You press the clip and then lift the end with the wires away first. If you imagine you are opening a cupboard door that's the movement you need.
