As a motor trader myself I'm struggling to understand what the company MO actually is for the bigger picture.
I know some who have been offered about £100 short of retail for their car. I know of others with similar stories as above. I understand from some they try and source you a car on trade in of your own with them. They continue to email you too. But then I know of others who get no offers of other cars and never had any email hassle from them. Seems like a great intermittency to me as to how they do what they do, but for the bigger picture I really don't understand where they are making their money to cover what must be massive advertising campaign fees. Someone told me recently their website is in the top 10 of hits. I can only assume there must be a lot of people out there willing to sell their motors for a lot less than they are worth if webuy are actually doing what their name suggests and making profit with it.

All their cars go to either their owner co Carcraft of straight to the auction under the name UKRemarketing. They offer on the website (I think)80% of cap clean trade value but when you arrive they will try to offer a lot less as they pick up on any minor defect and charge silly money to rectify it. Over the last couple of years they have been making a fortune, as a decline in new sales brought second hand car values up and auction prices were sometimes more than full retail.
There was an artical recently in one of the national papers about them have a read

Thanks for that Chris. I have to say, I don't see what the Mirror is trying to expose. All it seems their efforts have done is show that webuy are doing what is normal practice for pretty much all traders. Webuy are just doing so on a much bigger scale. Does it make their efforts to make profit unscrupulous, and if thousands of people are desperate for cash (coz that's the scale we are talking) because of an economy slump, is it immoral to take advantage of peoples plight when in business? The local pub doesn't think so when alcohol is much much cheaper at wholesale. Nor it seems do the supermarket chains charging nearly £1.50 for a loaf of Warburtons! And if you can buy two for one, or get a massive reduction by buying the second or third product much much cheaper than the first, just shows how much profit is available in the first place. Why is the motor trade pinpointed for immoral earnings I often wonder. But hey let's get back to the webuy thing. Am I to believe from the Mirror that webuy are taking advantage of people getting rid of their motors because they can no longer afford to tun them during these tight times? Give over. The vast majority of people selling, to webuy or anyone else, are looking to buy another car. And in that somewhere, webuy have stumbled upon a way to buy the punters car for less or not, and perhaps sell them their next car too. Fingers in lots of pies is very true I'm sure, but I remain confused as to which part of webuy is really making them the profit. As I say, it's the inconsistency of their MO that has me unable to put my finger on what really works for them. I don't believe for a minute it's buying cars on the cheap from punters duped into getting to webuy centres with a big online offer then bid in the balls once there. Such would indicate an opportunity for other traders to beat webuy offers unless the punters are completely stupid in taking b
k bids.
