Clutch Replacememt

Have just read in Steve Heaths Bible that 'cluch replacement is an engine out job' Is this realy the case??????

I think it can be done with the engine in, you may need to drop the gearbox though.
If you do a search I know this has been covered on here before and i think some one done a step by step posting on here.

I fitted a clutch in my 500 with the car as high as my axel stands would allow, I just had enough room to do the job & did not need to remove the engine.
I can't say it was easy and the neighbours must have thought I was doing the wife in as I did shout the odd obsenity when putting it back in on my own.
You really could do with two pairs of hands to guide in
the spline so as not to end up with it hanging without any support. I managed but as said previously it did cause the odd cross word !!

Page 224 2nd Edition It actually doesn't say you take the engine out (this is true for the Wedges BTW). It says that the only tricky thing is manipulating the gearbox out and in some more difficult occassions where the gods are against you, the final resort is to take the engine out.

Steve, Only going on what you wrote in your 1st edition-p100, but glad the engine hopefully won't have to come out.
