glove box catch

Tried doing a search but not successful - just got my griff 500 and the glove box lid is held shut by a piece of folded over cardboard! Hardly a massive problem but sure this must be a common occurance looking at the left overs bits of the old plastic catch left in the glove box!

Seen the plastic replacement unit on Racetech's website for £6/£7 or so but it looks like the one that is currently fitted and has failed?

so apologies if this has been discussed before but just wondering if any of you guys have done this before and/or up-graded the catch...maybe to a lockable one?

bought some fantastic magnets of ebay , about £5 for ten. they are only small but i masticked one on lid & the other on the frame, They lid doesnt drop open now when going over bumps in road at any speed,, LOL

Some guys used the metal loft latch setup, pics some where. Think it's a b&q part that is same push latch setup.

I've never had the problem, when I bought the car new the dealer explained it was a weakness and told me not to slam the lid it's perfect even now. That said someone (possibly David Beer) fitted a electro magnet wired to the ignition so it's effectively locked when the ignition is off. Good idea I thought.

just looked up my ebay account for listing ( Strong Neodymium Block Magnets 25 x 10 x 3mm (Pk of 10)
They was only a fiver & p&p was free, Ps these cant be drilled i broke about 5 drill bits trying,
When they send the packet you have to be hulk to break them apart. I magnet each side will do, dont try 2 each side i did & couldnt open it again,,,

If you take care and make sure they are lined up.. the original ones last for ever... just don't slam the lid shut... nice and easy....
anyway, the part you need is a Southco E4-10-203-10... they wont be much and you may be able to get a sample if you can think of a story why you'd need thousands if it workes..
Give them a try...

I bought a new latch + spare from Barnet TVR - that was 5 years ago. IIRC it was less than a fiver.

Awesome, thanks. Looks dead easy, these look like they just need gluing behind the fibreglass lips.

I know I am going to sound like a bit of a fanny here but...once the magnets are holding the lid closed...how do you open the lid? I only ask as once mine is shut and wedged with a bit of cardboard, its quite difficult to open...

both magnets are the inside of the fibreglass,, so they touch when closed, In the car trade we use stuff called mastic, which is the same stuff to stick windscreens in, you can open it with my thimb but you could us a piece of cord , cant post any fotos as in spain at mo. but can post when i get back, the whole job took 5 minutes & left the glove box open over night fot the glue to dry,, really is simple,,
