I am looking at removing the pre-cats from my existing manifolds and getting them Cermakrome coated. (I like shinny things).
Unfortunatley I use the car on a regular basis and therefore cannot take it off the road while the originals are remvoed and sent away. For this reason I am looking to purchase a pair from a breakers and get these coated and simply swap them over.
The question I have is can a correctly assume that the manifolds from any Chimaera will fit regardless of whether it is a 400, 450 or 500?

Generally they are all the same, but.....
when you come to try ring/ratchet spanners on reduced head bolts you find there are minor differences?? I had simply assumed these were manufacturing tolerances (angles/welds..) but these days I'm not so sure, and think that over production runs they may have subtly changed the design?
Most important thing anyway is that they are accurately matched to your head ports and any excess weld ground out IMHO. That doesn't help you at all though

OE ones are stainless . . . just a low grade . . Mine have done 80k miles so far and apart from a gasket change they're doing just fine.
Agree with Spend though that it can't be assumed another pair will fit straight on and you've also got to consider getting the bolts out. If you get one stuck, sheared etc then it'll be off the road longer than a weekend swap over job as unless it's 1 or 4, you'll need to take the head off to sort the issue . .

The bolts should be fine as the manifolds were off for a chassis rufurb last year. I was going to get new clamps, S/S bolts and nordlock washers from Tim at ACT at the same time.Agree with Spend though that it can't be assumed another pair will fit straight on and you've also got to consider getting the bolts out. Using the same logic that it cannot be assumed that another pair will fit does this mean that the ACT or any other manufacturer for that matter could be a pain to fit as well?
While we are all in here talking about manifolds, do you mind if I jump in and ask a question.
Actually, it could be of use to you Matthew.
I have later ACT stainless manifolds on my pre-cat, secured with ARP 3/8 bolts and Nord Lock washers. Only they aren't ruddy secured at all as I found on my run down to Spain and the bolts still insist on making a break for freedom - especially ports 5 and 7 for some reason.
Is it OK to use a bit (a very small bit) of threadlock on these do you reckon and not bother with the Nord Locks or even as a belt and braces, because I was having to pinch up number7 (no, not OUR Number7! ) every morning after around 500km each day.
I've got the technique off to a fine art now I suppose

Oh, and fitting a random set from another car... And a Chim at that
I know - outrageous behaviour! Having got a few quotes from breakers I think I may be persuaded to either save up for a set of the ACT ones and combine with Clive's Y piece or take the car off the road during winter for a bit to send off the originals and combine those with the Clive's Y.
