Rear end rocking

Was out in the Griff yesterday in 3rd gear overtaking a car conditions were dry was already in the outside lane so no white lines, when suddenly the car starts Rocking at the rear like someone was bouncing up and down on the suspesion I imediatley slowed and it stopped.

What was strange is that I had no loss of traction or wheel spin, must say it scared the sh!t out of me. Got the car home checked everything on the suspension and all seems good went out for another drive and everything seems back to normal.

Never experienced this before in the car, just a bit concerned now with the 160mile drive down to the Growl Tomorrow. Anybody esle ever experienced this?

When I was first looking for a Griff I drove one that did that. I'm sure I was told it was worn anti roll bar bushes. However I may be completely wrong. It was 3 years ago now, but I do remember it feeling completely uncontrollable when 'pushing on'

If it's really bad you may find that you've lost rebound damping . . have you tried bouncing it on the spot. It should settle back in 1.5 revolutions (vertical).

I had it happen on 2 sets of rear Gaz dampers on my S many years ago . ..

The Rear antiroll bars are the ARB ones and I do have a little play in the Rose joint. I have it up on the ramp at the moment and everything else seems OK.
Shockers are rebounding Ok aswell. maybe it was just one of those things as the car is fine now.

While you have the car in the air you need to give it all a damned good checking over.

Mine did this on the old Bilstiens when they finally gave up the ghost, any small bump (drain cover etc) would start the car bouncing in the most unusual manner.

Sounds like you might need shocks old boy.

Now been over everything and nothing, suspension OK shockers OK all bushes roll bar links etc etc all seem to be fine so will have to put it down to someting in the road that I didn't see.

Have your dampers got rebound rubbers on the chrome piston shaft? My old Europa had chronic bouncing problems and this was traced to incorrect ride height allowing the car to sit on the rebound rubbers when accelerating.

Thanks for the tip. It must though have just been something on the road as I have just got down to the Growl (160 mile) and no sign of it doing it again.
