Door cards

How do you remove the door cards? Need to lube the window runners etc.

Take out the speaker, and along the bottom on the inside are some 8mm nuts, if i remeber rightly theres another at the top......near the door opener end

Sorry but its been a couple of years since i did this job and i cant remember, i do remember putting 6mm stainless wing nuts and stainless penny washers back on because its a pain in the ass..........

Sounds very similar to removing the Chim door card. It's one of the trickiest things I've ever had to do - I still have a red mark on my wrist from the friction burn I got undoing that third nut!

Take care not to drop that third nut inside the door because you might never get it back.

And dont do it with a short sleeve shirt or you will be digging fiberglass chards out of your arm for months !!!!!

Top tip for the rear nut... Throw your ratchet into the bottom of the door then grab it and put it on the nut and let gravity do the turning. You can't get it on if you try to keep hold of it without breaking your wrist!

Warning!!... take care if you put it back using the rachet if it's a non-reversable one!... I did this in my car on the top nut near the Ali window frame (may be if you have an ash tray you can get to this.. if not you have to get your hand up inside from the speaker hole)... anyway, it draws the stud thru close to the glass as you tighten it up.. then you can't get the s*ding spanner off!!.. or undo the nut!.. took me ages to get it out!

Then put your hand in the speaker hole again, and this time towards the back, remove the 2nd 10mm nut

Then go in up to your elbow, and find the 3rd 10mm nut towards the back of the door...

remove the reflector

remove the screw from behind the ashtray


Think thats it

Panel has to be lifted up and away

Luckily it was not too tight when I realised what we happening, so was able just, to click the thing back with a small screwdriver a click at a time by levering between the ratchet itself and the body of the spanner (good job it was an open ratchet) !... and I had to be in such a contorted position to do this, it took about 5 hours… I could not use my hand afterwards for about 3 days!!.. the only other option would have been to take the window out!! .. what a Muppet!!

BTW. I dont have a TVR, but I do have to change both door cards on my car, been putting it off for weeks, i felt a guilt when seeing this thread so popped in.

Just having my window frame repaired as its been rattling. Its having wing nuts when it goes back on - simple idea but genius. Only need to be done soft hand tight.

Indeed... The origins go back a long way.. performance related you might say

Anyway.. good luck with your wing nut's and use thin rubber gloves (for the fibe-glass obviously!)

Best way!.. I had leather / plastic on my cards so covered them with very nice Red Alcantara to make the inside look a bit more lively.. only problem being, I stuck it to the plastic instead of removing it first... so now it's all starting to come un-attached..
So that's a nice job I have to look forward to re-doing this winter.. removing the cards and re-sticking the stuff... Great.. can't wait..
